“Let me just say that fear is stronger than any wall. What we are seeing right now is the ‘Trump effect.’”
Heh. Not even Trump’s opponents can deny the power of the Trump Effect.
UPDATE: Thanks, commenters. Because of you, I won’t be shutting down comments for now. Also, things aren’t bad enough to warrant such a big change. If bigger problems arise, I’ll have to revisit. Original post below.
Now that heckler-for-hire Pluto is no longer able to comment, there aren’t that many comments on the blog. So I plan to turn off comments and remove all the bans I’ve placed on individual commenters. The bans sometimes affect more people than they should.
If you disagree, let me know why by commenting on this post before tomorrow morning.
I live in the Seattle area, and it’s booming beyond belief. But I’ve noticed a steady deterioration in customer service over the last year or so. When I ask some business “employee” to do something, I now assume it will not be done, and set a reminder for myself to call back and harass them until it gets done. No one seems to do their job anymore.
I blame it on the boom. An iron-worker who makes six figures told me that, when he signed up at the union hall a decade ago, they selected him in part because he used to be a college defensive tackle; they were looking for the toughest guys. But now, business is so red hot that virtually anyone can sign up to be an iron-worker.
It all hit home when I saw the process of deterioration in action for myself.
I went in for a routine blood draw. The clinic was opening a new branch, and the competent guy running the old branch was training his replacements – an Indian woman, and an Eastern-European woman.
Their incompetence must be seen to be believed:
When that guy leaves, any patient who goes to that clinic is doomed.
This is happening in all sorts of businesses, all over the Seattle area.
…”Day Without an Immigrant.”
As for a successful “Day Without” protest, a “Day Without Men,” would be unbeatable in its effects on the whole world.
“Confidence is playing a large role. Businesses are anticipating a lot of good stuff — tax cuts, less regulation. They are hiring more aggressively.”
That business collapse at ESPN has caused a panic at the network, a desperate grab for relevance that has led to a pronounced leftward move. ESPN’s trying desperately to stay relevant as ratings collapse and subscribers flee. The decision? “We’ll be MSESPN, the home for far left wing politics and sports!” Only, it’s not working.
Over the past several years ESPN has lost over 13 million cable and satellite subscribers. Given that each subscriber pays ESPN in the neighborhood of $7 a month for the network, that’s over a billion dollars a year in lost revenue that will never be recouped. And those losses aren’t stopping. Indeed, every single day in 2017 ESPN is losing 10,000 subscribers or more.
Die, die, die already!
55 percent are weary of the anti-Trump coverage. And that’s among Adults! It’ll be a few points higher among Likely Voters. And:
The poll was largely completed before Trump’s well-received address to Congress last Tuesday.
Linwood Michael Kaine, 24, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of second-degree riot, a felony, during the “March 4 Trump” rally at the State Capitol in St. Paul, the Pioneer Press reported Tuesday. He was released Tuesday morning without being charged with a crime, although police are still investigating the matter, according to the Pioneer Press.
Police said he was among about 50 counterprotesters who clashed with pro-Trump demonstrators Saturday afternoon at the Minnesota State Capitol, where a crowd of about 400 had gathered in the rotunda to listen to speeches in support of the new president.
Tensions were already running high when someone threw a smoke bomb into the audience, striking a woman in the head, local media reported. Others set off fireworks in the building, sending people running and prompting security guards to intervene. At one point, someone reportedly sprayed what police called a “chemical irritant” into the crowd, causing people to cough and scatter out of the room.
A police spokesman, Steve Linders, told the Pioneer Press that Kaine ran from the scene and was arrested down the street from the building, along with four others suspected to have lit fireworks. Kaine resisted the arresting officer, who had to use “some force” to take him into custody, Linders said.
“He turned around and squared up to fight with the officer,” Linders said. “The officer was able to place Mr. Kaine under arrest and take him to the Ramsey County jail for booking.”
There are law-abiding women and children at these peaceful gatherings. The “protesters” are angry thugs who attacked peaceful people with chemical weapons and resisted arrest. Do you think a black man would have been immediately released in these circumstances? Or someone who supports Trump?
If you can escape justice for violent anti-democratic actions and resisting arrest, just because your dad is a powerful Democrat, we no longer live in a nation of laws. The violent, chemical-weapon-using, resisting-arrest thug must pay.
(See? I can call white people thugs too!)
