Elections Do Matter

Here’s a bit of interesting news from Wisconsin:

Gov. Jim Doyle vetoed legislation Thursday banning human cloning, saying it would criminalize research that one day could cure diseases such as Parkinson’s.

Doyle, a Democrat, said the potential medical benefits of stem cell research were more important than concerns over ‘cells in a dish.’

* * *

“Diamond” Jim Doyle swept into office back in 2002 with 45% of the vote. He was credited with a 68,000-vote plurality margin. The overall results were 45-41-11-3. The spoiler candidate received 185,000 votes (11%). It was a Green Party candidate who received the remainder.

I have a sneaking suspicion, although they wouldn’t necessarily admit it out loud, there are quite a few (non-voting or anti-GOP) conservatives up there in Wisconsin who would like to go back in time for a do-over of that contest.

Just a hunch . . .
