Stop Confusing Them With Facts
I got a kick out of this press release from U.S. House Speaker Denny Hastert:
While Democrat leaders keep promising the American people an agenda, they remain on opposite sides of many Democrat rank-and-file members who continue to support House Republican priorities . . .
Ah, yes, one of the dirty secrets of American politics.
Indeed, while leftists in the national media are busy projecting their B.D.S. over the latest non-story or non-scandal, the reality is the GOP Congress is churning out roughly one major reform measure per month.
Furthermore, and despite the rhythmic chanting of “GOP is divided!” from the media/academia cabal, the truth is that the remnants of the Democrat Party are divided (often bitterly) on most issues. The exceptions being federal spending (of which virtually 100% of Democrats want even more and more) and free trade (of which the vast majority of them want less and less).
Here’s a synopsis of the number of votes cast *by Democrats* in the U.S. House since Jan. 2005 in favor of major GOP agenda items:
1. Firearms Liability Reform
Democrats in favor = 59 (29%).
2. Energy Reform
Democrats in favor = 75 (37%).
3. Real ID Act
Democrats in favor = 42 (21%) [as a separate bill].
Democrats in favor = 143 (71%) [as part of a military spending bill, under which it actually was passed and signed into law].
4. Class Action Lawsuit Reform
Democrats in favor = 50 (25%).
5. Bankruptcy Reform
Democrats in favor = 73 (36%).
6. CAFTA Free Trade Statute
Democrats in favor = 15 (7%).
And for bills which have passed the House but have not yet passed the full Congress:
7. Death Tax Repeal Act
Democrats in favor = 42 (21%).
8. Private Property Rights Protection Act
Democrats in favor = 157 (78%).
Yep.
At least one quarter of the MediaCrat caucus in the U.S. House bucked the liberal line on most of those reform measures.
But, shhhhh, don’t tell Nancy P., or Henry Waxman, or Charlie Rangel, or Jim McDermott, or Konspiracy Keith, et al.
It’ll harm their psyches . . .
