Cookies For The Troops

For several years now, through Operation Thin Mint, Girl Scout cookies have been shipped to our troops overseas. This year, for the first time ever (at least in my area), Operation Thin Mint has been expanded to include door-to-door cookie sales. On the cookie sales form my daughter just received, there is a separate column for those who want to purchase cookies for the troops. All the customer does is choose the number of boxes to be purchased to go to the troops and pay for them. The Girl Scouts do all the rest.

I don’t know whether or not Operation Thin Mint is being expanded to door-to-door sales in every area, but wanted to make readers aware of it so that those who would like to participate would know to ask their favorite neighborhood Girl Scout about the program.

Girl Scouts are not allowed to conduct sales via email or website, but they can use email to let friends and family know that they are selling cookies. Readers that would like to participate in Operation Thin Mint, but do not have a Girl Scout in their area, can email me at the address in the right sidebar.

“Operation Thin Mint” was a part of the Girl Scout Program in San Diego, CA last year. Our 7 yr. old granddaughter sold 250 boxes (almost all of which went to the troops). The girls had the opportunity to watch the cookies loaded on the ship to be taken to our very deserving troops overseas. This is a great idea. Imagine doing a good deed, watching your weight, keeping your dentist bills down, benefiting our troops and instilling a sense of pride for our troops and our country in these young girls. The creative person that came up with this idea deserves a heartfelt thank you.

Update: I almost forgot, Operation Thin Mint purchases are tax deductible! Be sure to ask your scout for a receipt.
