“16 more convicted aliens arrested in Westchester, to be deported”
Eleven men who thought they were going to routine check-ins with their probation officers were arrested when they arrived Wednesday and now face deportation as part of a federal roundup of foreign born sex offenders.

The arrests are part of Operation Predator, a federal program targeting sex criminals that has resulted in more than 7,000 arrests, nationwide…..Similar roundups in Westchester the last two years resulted in 48 arrests, and all those arrested have been deported or are awaiting deportation, Westchester Probation Commissioner Rocco Pozzi said.

Victor Manuel Varela-Castillo appeals his conviction and sentence for illegal reentry following deportation. He argues that the district court misapplied the sentencing guidelines by counting his prior conviction for discharge of a firearm in his criminal history score…..

“Man charged with attempted bribery to get immigration papers”
A 24-year-old illegal immigrant from Lebanon has been charged with trying to bribe a federal agent to obtain documents to remain in the United States.
Hassan Ahmad Kourani . . . was charged in a criminal complaint on Monday with bribery, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison . . . . He also is being held on an immigration detainer.
