Alito’s Accidental Friends

By DJ Drummond ~ January 15th, 2006 @ 9:25 pm

Samuel Alito is not the sort of man to ‘wow’ a crowd, not the sort to charm people or demonstrate the charisma to win over enemies. Yet he is extremely likely, not only to win confirmation as a Supreme Court Justice, but also to carry a few Democrats in his ledger.

The reasons for this come from a number of specific sources, but in the end, a lot of the momentum comes from the behavior of leading Democrats.

One Senator accidentally drew a contrast between his personal lack of morals and the clear ideals hedl by Alito. Another had a vast array of questions he wanted asked, but spent the overwhelming portion of his time talking about his own opinions and extended thoughts, so that the questions had little time for answers. Still another was such an obvious villain that Democrats found it necessary to promise that they did not find anything wrong with Alito’s personal ethics and conduct.

The moral of the past week seems to be, let’s find a way to get some air time for these leading Democrats in late October. It would be very good to remind the voters of exactly what these guys are made of and want to do to America.
