The [strike] declaration would put both the Bay Area’s two largest school districts — San Francisco and Oakland — in jeopardy of a walkout. The Oakland teachers union is much closer to striking, though.

Two years of negotiations between Oakland’s district officials and its teachers union broke down Tuesday evening. Union leaders have been asking for a salary increase, which leaders of the bankrupt district say they cannot afford.

Why, the next thing you’ll tell me is that big liberal cities controlled for decades by liberal Democrats also are saddled with: high relative crime, murder, suicide, poverty, teen pregnancy, unemployment, and student dropout rates.
