The Evil We Face

Betsy Newmark has a post about the fate rape victims face in Iran. It is horrible and disgusting. I guess the only positive thing I can say is that at least the rapes themselves aren’t being committed by the son of the leader of the country, as they were in Iraq. Well, if they are, the report doesn’t mention it.

When I watch the reaction to the Danish cartoons, and see women sending their children to blow themselves up in Gaza, and watched those dancing in the streets celebrating when the towers fell, and see video of the atrocities committed by Saddam Hussein, and read about rape victims in Iran, I get such an overwhelming feeling of complete and utter disbelief that it is hard to process. President Bush has described the murderous actions of the jihadists as evil. I can’t argue with that, but the way this evil presents itself is something that I can barely comprehend, much less attempt to understand or propose the best way to combat it.

I am so thankful for President Bush and those under his command who have to face this evil on a daily basis and make life and death decisions about how to protect those like me and my family from it so that we don’t have to think about it constantly. God bless those wonderful people whose names I will never know for risking their lives so that I can worry about what to fix my family for supper or what movie we want to go see on Saturday night. God bless those wonderful people, and shame on those who, for pure political advantage, seek to make that job more difficult for those trying to protect us. Shame on them.
