Slow News Day

This is listed as a top political story on the AP/Yahoo wires:

Dems Criticize Bush Security Policies

Oh, man.

At what point will liberal media headline writers finally realize that Bush . . . can’t . . . run . . . for . . . re . . . election?!

It’s gonna’ be a *long* 2.75 years.

Anyways:

CA C.D. 50

That special election to replace “the Duke of San Diego” is set for this coming Tuesday. Here’s the AP’s self-therapy session on the subject:

Scandal Looms Large in Calif. House Race

If there is any doubt about whether ethics matter, consider how the scandal of a former GOP congressman now doing prison time for tax evasion and bribery has cast a long shadow over a House election.

Over to you, Nancy Pelosi.

* * *

I’m seriously looking forward to the results of that contest.

Why?

Howard Kaloogian.

Kaloogian is one of the most conservative politicos anywhere. He’s to the right of Tancredo on immigration, to the right of Steve Forbes on taxes, and he’s as much of a social conservative as Rick Santorum.

George W. Bush won San Diego County not once but twice. It’s an open special election. So, we’ll get to see just how many putative conservatives down there are ready and willing to back up their rhetoric with action. We’ll find out whether the Buchanan-Derbyshire blocs were able to tear themselves away from sailing their yachts for 30 minutes in order {gulp} to participate in that electoral process.

If Kaalogian finishes a distant second among the GOP candidates or if he doesn’t come within a country mile of the MediaCrat candidate that’ll suggest something many of us out here in the Golden State have suspected for quite some time: That a material percentage of the alleged California conservative bloc consists merely of poseurs.

We’ll see. It should be interesting.
