A Test Race

April 13, 2006

In December 2005, Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist ran as an independent in a special election for a House seat in California. Gilchrist won 25 percent of the vote, coming close to the Democrat’s 28 percent. The Republican candidate won just 44 percent in the heavily Republican district.

Gilchrist’s strong showing helped persuade the House to pass H.R. 4437 to secure our borders.

But the Senate may now grant a giant amnesty to 12 million illegal invaders. We need to send them a message.

Well, there’s a very clear opportunity to do so: There’s another special election in California on June 6.

In one corner is Democrat Francine Busby, a lefty supporter of the McKennedy amnesty for illegal invaders.

In the other corner is Republican Brian Bilbray, a lobbyist for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR,) which advocates reduced levels of immigration. FAIR is a great organization. I’ve donated to them in the past.

There is no ambiguity here. We are presented with a stark choice between a pro-borders Republican, and a pro-invader Democrat. We need a huge victory in this race. We need to send the suits in Washington, DC, a message.

Please donate whatever you can to Brian Bilbray’s campaign. Volunteer for his campaign if you can. Help out in any way you can. But please do donate. We don’t get opportunities like this very often.
