The Impact

Tonight at 8 PM Eastern time, George Bush will commit political suicide on prime-time national TV.

His speech tonight will be the most lunk-headed political move ever made by a president of the United States. So be sure to watch; it’ll be one for the history books.

Until now, the immigration debate has mostly been restricted to people who care the most – the illegal immigrants themselves, Bush’s big-money paymasters who want cheap labor, Democrat politicians who want all those poor, under-educated immigrants to vote for them, conservatives appalled at the potential destruction of the American Republic.

But, by taking his policy directly to the people, El Presidente is about to learn just how unpopular it is. Putting the face of George Bush on his suicidal immigration “reform” plan will galvanize core Democrat constituencies who’ve been silent thus far – African-Americans, unions, Kossacks. All these people are deeply suspicious of El Presidente and will therefore focus on the ways in which his immigration policy will hurt them.

Also, by coming out openly for a policy that would import tens of millions of low-skilled, under-educated, poor immigrants from third-world countries, Bush will turn the debate into more than just water-cooler talk. All the middle-class people who vote Republican will suddenly ask themselves just what it would mean if Bush’s fevered dreams became the law of the land.

The politicians in Washington are about to awaken a sleeping giant. They will suffer the consequences.
