Clinton Booed Over Pullout

Hillarly that is of course. As reported by the associated press here.

WASHINGTON – Anti-war activists at a liberal gathering booed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Tuesday for opposing a set date for pulling U.S. troops from Iraq. Facing down the jeers, Clinton said Democrats need to have “a difficult conversation” about the war.

I find this an interesting dichotomy the anti-war left has seemed to setup so far for 2008. At this point apparently to the radical anti-everythings your either for the troops coming home ASAP no matter how close they might be to total victory, OR your seen as supporting the war. Well it doesn’t take a genius to see the false dichotomy, I mean one could easily have not been in favor of our efforts in Iraq and still have enough political (as well as common sense) sense to not be in favor of a precipitous withdrawal. This is also not a winning political technique if you ask me. Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last 15 years then it should be clear to you Hillary is no fan of the military and is no where near the “center” she’s been trying to project of late, her beliefs in general are more in lock step with the radical anti-war left then any other group. So why then would they give her, their clear front-runner for 2008 the cold shoulder? How does that help them?

At the same time they applaud John -I served in Vietnam- Kerry, suggesting of withdrawal, which I might add is par for the course with him. Hey he called for an early exit while we were at a turning point in Vietnam, why not try and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again. This may be what they want to hear, but it’s damaging to him for any general election, and will be used against him god forbid he run in 2008. It seems to me this group of bandits are forcing people into positions that will come back to hurt them come election time… but hey I’m sure it makes them “feel” good at the moment. I’m curious if anyone thinks this is a wise strategy.

Tip to The Ace for pointing me to James Taranto’s great piece on this and related matters.
