Colin Powell Wrong Again
It’s my impression that most americans remember Colin Powell as the war hero from the 1991 Gulf War, which just goes to show you how easy it is to fool the american public if you can get some good press. Let us remember that Mr. Powell was generally against our liberating Kuwait in 1990, was the primary reason in 1991 that we never pushed our way toward Baghdad, and of course was not in favor of our 2003 liberation of Iraq. This doesn’t make the general a bad man, and it doesn’t even make him a bad soldier in my view, it just makes him wrong. It doesn’t stop there either, from time to time the man likes to discuss social issues as well, which he’s apparently about as adept at doing as he is foreign policy… not very well. I could rant on about his views but lets just get to a few days ago where he said the following about immigration:
“The Berlin Wall did not work perfectly and the wall that the Israelis are putting up is not going to work perfectly,” Powell said. “So, a wall alone is not the answer.”
Well Duh!, perhaps that’s why enforcement advocates are calling for more then just walls and barriers but actual people manning the border, stepped up employer enforcement and a end to catch and release. Powell mentions that the walls in Berlin and Israel are not working perfectly, I’d like to know what is his definition of perfection. I think it’s fair to say the Berlin Iron Wall if you will was pretty dam effective at keeping the border secure, if it wasn’t then why was it so difficult getting our spies and defectors across the borders in the 70’s and 80’s. The Israeli “wall” or series of walls and high fences have actually been very effective, in some high risk areas dropping attacks some 90 percent, sounds pretty darn effective to me. Now lets build the dam wall already!
