Only Nixon Could Go To China

The expression “Only Nixon could go to China,” explains why President George W. Bush will not be the President to sign “comprehensive immigration” in his final thirty months in office.

President Bush does have “political capital” in areas like the War on Terror but they are similiar to the old East German Marks that could only be spent in East Germany. The President is unable to go to a political currency exchange and convert his War on Terror “currency” into immigration currency.

The Administration has taken a whole series of recent steps to bolster border security and that is precisely the problem, they are recent. If the President had been serious about Border Security, he would have taken these steps years ago but he chose not. Just like an employee that waits too long to fund their 401 (k), President Bush does not have enough time left to make up for his earler lack of savings.
