The Big Dig – Again

Jeff Jacoby knocks it out of the park:

“That project could never be complete until it bears the name of the person who made it all possible,” gushed US Senator Ted Kennedy. “So let us celebrate his great legacy today . . . and remember that our job in public life is to improve the lives of others.” Valle’s life was not improved by this troubled project. It was ended by it.

The Big Dig is indeed a monument to O’Neill. It captures perfectly the costly big-government sloppiness for which he was the poster child.

And what happens when the destructive effects of liberalism come to fruition? Republicans must clean up the mess.

Governor Mitt Romney this afternoon ordered an immediate shutdown of the eastbound section of the Ted Williams Tunnel after state engineers re-inspected the concrete ceiling tiles and found two bolts that had loosed on the same panel.

Holding up photographs of the problem at an afternoon press conference, Romney pointed to a bolt that he said had slipped ½ an inch. The closure overruled an earlier inspection by the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority that had found 25 problems area in the tunnel but determined that none of the faulty connections threatened to give way.

More on Romney’s hands on approach here and here.

I am sick and tired of having to watch the party of petulant children use and abuse the public trust and resources to pursue their silly agenda. At some point the party of adults must stop bailing them out to teach them a lesson.

Hopefully that day is coming soon as liberal ideas tend to kill people.
