Sock-puppets, lies, and the Left
In response to a recent Jeff Jacoby column hammering the left for the use of the term “chicken hawk,” intellectual lightweight and noted sock-puppet Glenn Greenwald responded like this:
Although there is no formal definition for it, the “chicken hawk” criticism is not typically made against someone who merely (a) advocates a war but (b) will not fight in that war and/or has never fought in any war (although, admittedly, there are those who mis-use the term that way).
…
Chicken-hawkism is the belief that advocating a war from afar is a sign of personal courage and strength, and that opposing a war from afar is a sign of personal cowardice and weakness.
Greenwald “Ellison” simply saw fit to change the terms of the debate. Why? Because of course as an “intellectual leader” of the modern left, he couldn’t refute what Jacoby said. The part about the “mis-use” of the term would be news to 99% of GiGi’s readers.
In part of his “response” Glenn Greenwald “Wilson” also added:
The war in Afghanistan was supported by roughly 90% of Americans, as was the first Persian Gulf War, even though only a tiny fraction of war supporters would actually fight in those wars which they advocated.
That is a lie on both counts. First, the votes in Congress to authorize Operation Desert Storm were 250 to 183 in the House, and 52 to 47 in the Senate. If something was so overwhelmingly popular, why were the votes that close? Either GiGi is lying, or Democratic politicans are wildly out of touch with the electorate. Which is it?
Secondly, it must have been a very vocal “10 percent” of the population warning about the “brutal Afghan winters,” wondering if it is a “quagmire” a little more than a month into the operation, and such. Further, moveon.org and Michael Moore opposed invading Afghanistan. Add a portion of the crazy left in America to the pacifists, and I’m sure you could get more than 10 percent.
Keep in mind folks Greenwald is viewed as a thought leader by the left. The sycophants at his blog cheer him on for taking down the right “by using facts and reason and extensive posts.” That is where the party of petulant children stands on matters relating to intellectual honesty, facts, and reasoned debate.
