And now the moment of truth arrives. Can Zimbabwe Ben seemlessly hand off a centrally planned economy to a new, self-sustaining free market economy?

Call me a cynic but I doubt it.

I wouldn’t trust anything while Mr. Mom-jeans is in charge…

Another one covering this is Mark Hanson, here’s a recent post.
    http://mhanson.com/archives/1324

One of Hanson’s major points is that real estate is fragile due to the lack of “organic buyers”. These are young couples starting families. They’re frequently too deep in student debt to buy a house these days…or haven’t found a stable job. The other category of organic buyers are owners moving up to a larger place as their families grow or as they succeed financially and want a nicer place. This group is hurt because they typically sell their current house to move up. Without a strong group of first time buyers, they’re stuck.
Instead of organic buyers we have investors looking for rental properties and flippers fixing up low end properties for resale.

Completely off topic…except that it is another instance of the heavy hand of government.

An argument that the gang-of-8 immigration deal is dead and ObamaCare broke it.
Not because illegals are covered by ObamaCare with our tax dollars, but because the Repubs no longer believe that Obama can be trusted to enforce the law…even a crappy, multi-hundred-page law like the immigration deal.

Yes, it’s all “inside baseball” and theorizing but….
Speculation that Boehner-led House GOP will cave.

Kaus: “I say this as someone who thinks the [immigration] bill would be a disaster.”

Can the Repub party become a viable opposition by gradually removing RINOs?

Time to Throw Out Second Best GOP Senators
Wyoming Senator Mike Enzi is a loyal Republican, a decent guy, and generally a good senator. He also needs to retire from the Senate because he is not good enough, and I don’t care if that makes him sad.

The New York Times probably thought it was helping him recently when it ran an article about how Dick Cheney’s daughter Liz is planning to challenge him in the 2014 Republican primary. The Times hailed him as “a studious, low-key legislator who worked well with Senator Edward M. Kennedy,” and Enzi probably thinks that’s a compliment.

For that reason alone he needs to go.

He needs to go because we can do better. It’s not about Mike Enzi or any other Republican politician. It’s about winning this war against progressivism, and if you aren’t leading the fight then bow out and make room for someone who will.

More RINO hunting detailed in a Club for Growth email:
“Bryan [Smith] is challenging RINO-incumbent Mike Simpson in Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District.”
Not only is challenger Smith a good guy, but
[Incumbent] “Simpson has an anemic and deserved lifetime rating of only 58% on the Club for Growth’s Congressional Scorecard.
Mike Simpson has repeatedly voted for the expansion of government-run health insurance, Democrat spending bills, and pork project after pork project. He voted for the $700 billion taxpayer bailout of Wall Street banks and he was one of only three Republican Congressmen to vote against defunding ACORN – the far-left group notorious for government fraud!”

An example of press bias. There are so many that posting one is lighting a candle in the darkness, but it is important have example you can point people to.
    http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2013/07/08/associated-press-youre-why-we-cant-have-a-nice-country-anymore/
So here’s how the Associated Press wire service leads its story on Gov. Rick Perry’s announcement that he won’t seek another term as governor.
Rick Perry, the longest-serving governor in Texas history who famously muttered “oops” after forgetting during a 2011 presidential debate the third of three federal departments he’d pledged to close, announced Monday he won’t seek re-election next year to a fourth full term.

Rick Perry has been Texas longest-serving and arguably most successful governor. Under his watch, the Texas economy has boomed while the economies of the other large states have mostly stagnated. … Texas has done quite well under his watch.

Instead of leading with any of that, the Associated Press chooses one unfortunate moment to define Rick Perry.

That would be fine if the wire would do the same to anyone else in politics. It could choose any number of Barack Obama’s or Hillary Clinton’s gaffes to define them. It could go with Obama’s bizarre claim to have visited 57 states or to want to “spread the wealth around.” It could go with Hillary Clinton’s false claim that she was named after Sir Edmund Hilary or that she came under sniper fire in Bosnia. It could define Obama by his failing health care law or his repressive IRS or his deadly Fast and Furious scandal. It could define Hillary Clinton with her bizarre claim that all of President Bill Clinton’s troubles were the fault of a “vast right-wing conspiracy” instead of his own tendency to abuse his power and womanize …

      From the comments:
Can you imagine the AP writing something like this:
“Barack Obama, the teleprompter-dependent president who embarrassingly uttered the phrase “corpse-men” three times in one speech, is spending his his final term….”

More evidence that you can trust the media to be fair and accurate. The racism is OK: the targets are Asian.

KTVU Channel 2 is apologizing for an on-air gaffe that the station — or viewers – won’t soon forget.
During the noon newscast Friday, co-anchor Tori Campbell, announced that “KTVU has just learned the names of the four pilots who were on board” Asiana flight 214 when it crashed at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday.
She then read from a teleprompter while a TV graphic displayed four fake names that clearly were someone’s idea of a joke.
The first name — “Captain Sum Ting Wong” — should have been a give-away that something really was wrong. But Campbell kept reading… “Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk, Bang Ding Ow.”
After a break, Campbell made an on-air correction, clarifying that the names were clearly wrong — but that they had confirmed them earlier with the National Transportation Safety Board.
