To those suggesting banning handguns in response, they tried that in the UK & it had no effect apart from stopping it ever happening again.

There is no correlation between cars or food and arming people. The only reason to bring up such a stupid comparison is to confuse the issue.

    • PoliPundit on December 15, 2012 at 1:58 pm

      You would let millions die?

      • The POTUS on December 15, 2012 at 2:06 pm

If you can’t tell the difference between fatty foods and guns you are so stupid you shouldnt be allowed access to either.

        • PoliPundit on December 15, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Name a principle that would justify banning guns, but not fatty foods. Other than “I don’t have a gun, but I like fatty food.”

          • The POTUS on December 15, 2012 at 2:13 pm

it’s a false dichotomy. You’re such an ass.

          • The POTUS on December 15, 2012 at 2:21 pm

When people die from fatty food it is not an act of malice toward others. A bratwurst didnt kill a school of children yesterday you douche.

          • Bertrand Russell on December 21, 2012 at 3:16 pm

With Fatty Foods, you decide to harm yourself. With guns, you kill others who did not consent to your demented decision making.

    • ken_phd on December 15, 2012 at 8:50 pm

      The POTUS:

It’s a bit soon to have a political debate and hammering away without having all the facts.

One thing we know for sure: the school was completely defenseless against any sort of attack regardless of the weapons used. After the Virginia Tech massacre, I would have thought parents would be concerned. Obviously not.

Let no parent ever again send their child to a school without first knowing the school’s security measures.

      • The POTUS on December 16, 2012 at 4:34 am

So what you’re saying is that let’s not do gun control which has worked everywhere else let’s have armed militias in every place accessible to well anyone is that correct?

        • artist on December 16, 2012 at 6:59 am

We already have gun control, idiot.

          • memory hole on December 16, 2012 at 7:06 am

What a stupid thing to say.

        • bobo on December 17, 2012 at 9:31 am

Except that it hasn’t, you’d better check the numbers again. The only thing gun bans do is disarm law abiding citizens.

      • dtrumpet on December 16, 2012 at 6:48 am

Gun control has NOT worked anywhere it has been tried. The states with the strictest gun control have the largest percentage of gun crimes. It should be no surprise that Chicago has some of the largest gun crimes in this country.
Both England and Australia has seen an exponential explosion in gun crimes and gang activity since passing gun control. Many of the police forces in England now carry weapons where the did not before.
You can babble drivel and call others name, representative of a person exhibiting the attributes of violence towards others. Name calling is meant to dehumanize another individual so that actions taken against then can be justified.
The Obama administration and Congress cut back funds for school security and helped to make this possible. The DOJ refuses to enforce background checks to buy a gun. The Obama administration is responsible for “Fast and Furious, a program that morphed under into one that ignored mexico prior involvement. If one is going to kill others to make a big splash the the perfect place is a “gun free zone.”
Blaming inanimate objects for what are the failures of human beings are the bailiwick of those who won’t take responsibility for themselves.
NOTE: With POTUS’s irrational drivel one has no reason to give any credence to this tool of Obama.

        • memory hole on December 16, 2012 at 6:57 am

You’re wrong check the actual numbers. Death by gun has gone down in every nation that has introduced gun control.

          • artist on December 16, 2012 at 7:28 am
          • dtrumpet on December 16, 2012 at 7:54 am

More like humbuggery. And I have checked the actual numbers over time. Where gun crimes have gone down it is because of concealed carry and the fact that someone else may have the means to protect themselves.
When many of those who want gun control start ensuring that their body guards don’t carry weapons then I might give it a thought. Not much of one. Why am I supposed to believe their lives are more important than mine or my family’s or any other citizen? Election to a political office, having a lot of money, et al still does not make you better than other citizens or make your life more valuable than mine.
“Artist” points out the fallacy of your pontifications.
Crime has gone down as a whole, but due to the fact that Gun ownership has gone up.

          • memory hole on December 16, 2012 at 8:34 am

Funny that you pick a high point year after which enforcement increased and crime went down. Also note the UK has one of the lowest rates per capita of anywhere in the world and some of the toughest anti gun laws.

        • Jim,MtnViewCA,USA on December 17, 2012 at 8:15 am

          More on UK gun control.
          http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/159830/

FRUITS OF BRITAIN’S GUN POLICY: Culture of violence: Gun crime goes up by 89% in a decade [link]. But gun-controllers don’t really mind criminals having guns. It’s ordinary people they want disarmed.

Related: BBC [link]: Handgun crime ‘up’ despite ban. “A new study suggests the use of handguns in crime rose by 40% in the two years after the weapons were banned.” But again, it’s not really about crime. It’s about control.”

    • allie on December 17, 2012 at 8:37 am

What/who has killed more? Fatty foods or communism, dictators and/or sharia law? Between the communists, dictators and muslim’s practice of sharia untold millions have been killed. So I ask again which has/or continues to kill more? Can we now ban communism and sharia to protect the innocent?

  2. Mike in NC on December 15, 2012 at 2:46 pm

    Ha! Only millions?

Billions will die as a result of “time”!

  3. Pete in CT on December 15, 2012 at 2:56 pm

    Big difference-
fatty food not protected by the Constitution.
fatty foods can’t protect you & your family from a criminal
fatty foods can help you kill better food for your family
Dictators don’t round up the fatty food when they take over a country

    Random thought on a change that would help more than banning/confiscating guns;
    1) This would never happen in the school that a President’s kid goes to because of Secret Service armed on school grounds or campus. Put ex-Police at front door, with locked doors and metal detectors. Capital cost upfront would be significant, but could be easily paid for by getting illegals out of the country.
What’s more important to the politicians –
a- our kids and the Constitution, or
    b- illegals

  4. ip727 on December 15, 2012 at 2:59 pm

The knee jerk lefty response~~~~punish millions of law abiding gun owners, for the action of a tiny few.Punish the innocent for the actions of the guilty.

How many babies were aborted during the same time frame?

    • Goonions on December 16, 2012 at 3:02 am

You got that right. How many of those aborted were done so by partial birth abortion. The most hideous act of violence against a child that can be done. At least these kids at that school had a slight chance to live.

Outlaw guns and some jerk will walk in with a bomb and set it off. How many kids died in the OK City bombing in that nursery?

    • The POTUS on December 16, 2012 at 4:43 am

The sane want to stop the killing of thousands every year due to violent gun crimes. The right wants to carry on in the proud tradition of having gun death rates that are 1000 times higher then other nations.

      • rightwingyahoo on December 16, 2012 at 6:48 am

Your side wants to ignore a million aborted babies every year, claim they care about children, ban a fundamental right in order to fail in their attempt to stop 10,000 gun crimes a year (all ages, and child victims are only a fraction of that total), and meanwhile rob the law abiding of their most affordable means of stopping 1 million crimes per year against their lives and property, as those who arm themselves in their homes and businesses annually do.

        You call that sane.

I call it treason, and I say you’re a domestic enemy of the constitution.

I will not live in the same country with someone like you, and soon, as the red/blue states go their separate ways, I won’t have to.

        • memory hole on December 16, 2012 at 7:04 am

First off you’re an idiot and insane. Second abortion and gun control are separate issues.

if you need a sub machine gun to protect yourself on your street you should move or do something to get all the guns off the street.

          • dtrumpet on December 16, 2012 at 8:02 am

Once you start using names such as idiot and making judgments that you have not the skills or qualifications to make then you have demonstrated your lack of the intellectual skills necessary to make a reasoned defense of your position.
By that alone you have NO credibility.

          • rightwingyahoo on December 16, 2012 at 8:06 am

ok, at least now we know why you lefty cowards want to eliminate Israel….

Im sorry, but Americans are not cowards like you goddamned lying communists. We will not trade our freedom and security for government promises that we know are lies.

          • rightwingyahoo on December 16, 2012 at 8:08 am

typical lefty horseshit wanting to make everything 10,000 times worse in order to make it better.

I’ve read more than enough rwh posts that i know and he also knows for certain that is he is mentally deficient.

Freedom for security is a false argument. The lack of gun control in America has made the nation less safe not more.

          • rightwingyahoo on December 16, 2012 at 9:59 am

No. Over one million Americans defend their lives, loved ones, or property every year with firearms….

10,000 Americans are killed by guns every year. Some are bad guys, some are suicides. Some are innocent victims of out of control police…..A small percentage are children.

You gun control advocates are always trying to make things worse, by sacrificing the many to save the few.

      • artist on December 16, 2012 at 7:05 am

By the “right” you mean dozens of Democrat legislators.

        Right?

You despise the Constitution, just say it.

And I can’t WAIT for Ogabe to push the issue. The Country is already a powder-keg. Go ahead, light the match.

Blue Stater? Get real. In comparison to me – you are a commie loving maggot.

But your over lord Republican masters will be sucking the a$$ of their democrat friends like they always do.

Hey Rightwing – did you see two weeks ago on Rush’s program that Jim DeMint refereed to Harry Reid as his “friend”. That’s right, Harry Reid is Jim DeMint’s friend. If Jim DeMint is the best the Republicans have – then you people are screwed and don’t know it.

  8. Eric W. on December 16, 2012 at 7:39 am

Thank god all schools are gun free zones. I mean you wouldn’t want a teacher or principal to have been able to stop this.

    • The Trolls on December 16, 2012 at 1:43 pm

Too funny, you want the principal of every school to be rambo. You would laugh at the equivalent farthest fringe left wing fantasy, which would be something like, “Hey everybody, cows have feelings too!”

      • Eric W. on December 16, 2012 at 2:13 pm

Not rambo. Have some form of protection when something like this happens. Or do you prefer them to be sitting ducks with no chance?

      • ip727 on December 16, 2012 at 3:07 pm

No numbnuts, just use retired military or police to do the job.

  9. The Trolls on December 16, 2012 at 1:54 pm

A national tragedy occured, but you would not know it from the posts here. Poli’s comment is some dreamed up false equivalence.

  11. ken_phd on December 16, 2012 at 8:12 pm

Some non lethal steps schools could (and should) take to enhance security.

    1. Teachers trained and armed with stun guns
    2. Metal detectors with limited access and exits
    3. Silent alarms direct to police (similar to banks)
    4. bullet proof doors and locks (similar to aircraft)
    5. Stun canisters in hallways and classrooms that could be activated by police or principal.

Any private school with these security measures would be inundated with new customers.

  12. Ripley on December 17, 2012 at 4:12 am

If fatty foods start walking into schools and mowing down kids, then you might get me to consider your ban idea, till then, forget about it. Since nothings going to be done anyway, look at the bright side, it’s likely 47% of those kids would have ended up as gov dependents. But I do feel sad for the other 53%.

    • ip727 on December 17, 2012 at 5:59 am

If guns start walking into schools and mowing down kids, then you might get me to consider your ban idea, till then, forget about it,but since it was a person that did it, guns are blameless.

Things that don’t stop deranged killers from murdering innocents:

    1. Notices on buildings that guns are not allowed on the premises.
    2. Tough gun control laws
    3. Depending on police to arrive in time
    4. Flowering speeches by politicians after the fact.

  14. ip727 on December 17, 2012 at 7:58 am

    • The Trolls on December 17, 2012 at 10:53 am

They aren’t after guns in general. I own guns, have for almost four decades now, and I am not worried in the slightest.

      High capacity magazines?

      Different story.

I wonder what the other members of that kid’s well-regulated militia are saying…they must be stunned.

      • Ben Dover on December 17, 2012 at 12:48 pm

Liar, it’s incremental and if you’re too stupid to realize that you should not posses firearms.

        • DavidCamerone on December 18, 2012 at 11:59 am

I will gladly hang onto my firemans, you are case in point why people should be armed to protect themselves against the lunatics. You are your own self-filling prophecy. Then, again, I am sure you spend a lot of tine self-fulfilling yourself.
