Is Colin Powell an idiot?

October 25, 2012

“Republican” Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama.

Powell voted for Obama in 2008. Lots of Republicans and moderates did. Obama offered a message of hope, change, post-racialism, and post-partisanship. Lots of people fell for it.  And John McCain was an execrable, free-speech-hating, bank-bailout-pushing, grumpy old man.

But now? After seeing the reality of Obama, an extreme leftist ideologue whose record on both the economy and foreign policy is an unmitigated disaster? How can a “Republican” vote for Obama over the ultimate mainstream moderate, Mitt Romney?

Here are better questions to think through —

What are the economic implications of a Romney victory for Ex-Sec of State Colin Powell?

How important is being seen as “Authentically Black” to Colin Powell’s future speaking engagement income?

  3. Conrad on October 25, 2012 at 6:15 am

Powell is a pretty liberal guy — pro-affirmative action, for example — who initially opted for the GOP out of loyalty to Reagan and GHWB for advancing his career and who stuck with W in order to become Secy of State. Now, he’ll probably remain literally a RINO because it would look fickle to change and because it will lend him more credibility in attacking Republicans if he can claim to be one himself. But who cares, really? I can’t think of a single thing he accomplished in his career other than padding his resume.

    • allie on October 25, 2012 at 4:59 pm

He really is a democrat masquerading as a republican. He supports Obama only because of skin color. He has lost any credibility he ever had.

      • Poli when will you reveal yourself? on October 25, 2012 at 7:11 pm

What a ridiculously racist assumption. If I’m white and I vote for Romney is that only because he’s white too?

        • Goonions on October 25, 2012 at 10:54 pm

No, that is not an assumption, it is a fact. What could Powell if he was a real Republican really point to that Obama has done that makes him preferable over Romney? Not a thing. Your racist argument is nothing more than the typical democratic response for defending a man who has nothing to offer but four more years of the same failed policies. So, if you had to vote between Hillary Clinton and Herman Cain who would you vote for? Surely you would have to voter for Herman Cain or you would be a racist, correct? By the way, I am a gun-toting white guy that would vote for Cain.

        • IP727 on October 26, 2012 at 9:00 am

If you have always called yourself a republican the jump ship when a black runs, then you are a racist.

        • allie on October 26, 2012 at 10:55 am

If you vote for Romney ONLY because he is white then that would make you a racist.

Right and 95 percent of blacks vote for Obama because he is transparent, bringing the parties together, cutting the budget in half, bringing unemployment below 6%. Hell no, 95 percent of blacks vote for Barack Obama because he is black. Nothing more, nothing less. That probably is racist but blacks always have been.

Powell is a great example of an American soldier who became a politician. Just like John “Seared, I tell you!” Kerry, John “I ♥ Ted Kennedy” McCain, John “Haditha” Murtha, and Benedict Arnold. I do NOT thank them for their service.

The other example of soldiers who became politicians includes George Washington. I would include Dwight Eisenhower, Sam Johnson, and Duncan Hunter in that camp. We are really not worthy of most of these guys.

If you can’t tell the difference in 5 seconds of hearing them speak about America, you’re an idiot. Then again, that includes probably 47% of Americans, according to some polls…

    • Mike Oxbig on October 25, 2012 at 6:44 pm

Do you honestly think for a second that Washington or Eisenhower would want a single damn thing in the world to do with the three-ring circus of bigots, zealot, warmongers and morons that constitute the Republican Party?

If you do, then you don’t know a single thing about either man.

      • Goonions on October 26, 2012 at 4:40 am

Sorry bud but I think that this election will show you that slightly over 50% of our population is rejecting your own tax and spend, welfare state, redistributionist policies. I think that it is your current warmonger in chief that has the hit list he so proudly touts as well as his intervention in Libya that was unauthorized.

Just think what it is like to be an ambassador today for Obama’s administration. It used to be up to guys like Colin Powell to protect American assets (read: actual people) abroad, both in his military capacity and as SOS.
To think I would have voted for him in his almost bid for President. Thank God he decided to opt out, since he has now shown his true colors.

    “Is Colin Powell an idiot?”

No. Colin Powell is a Democrat. His claim of being a Republican should be treated as a humorous statement. Not to be taken seriously.

    • Richard Starkey of the Restored United States on October 25, 2012 at 9:17 am

Indeed. Nor should he be taken seriously on any subject.

Oddly enough, Obama and his ilk win, whether or not he is reelected. Regardless of who is elected, the economy is going to collapse, we are just too far gone to recover any time soon…if ever! If Romney wins, the economy will collapse and Obama & company will blame Romney…and Bush, and our duped Americans will believe it. If Obama wins the economy will collapse and Obama will blame Bush, and our duped Americans will believe it. It is a no lose situation for Obama and his anti-American cohorts. Sorry to tell you all, America is over as a free nation. Years ago a prominent Russian said “we will defeat America, but we will not do it militarily, we will corrupt their children”. Mission accomplished…and Colin Powell is a perfect example…a very sad thing to have to state, but utterly true.

    • The POTUS on October 25, 2012 at 8:27 pm

You’re not being duped when it’s the truth. The GOP trashed the economy.

      • Goonions on October 25, 2012 at 11:00 pm

Sure, and the GOP held a gun to Obamas head to make him continue running up debt. Most of us will admit that the repubs helped put it in the ditch but the democrats basically shoved it over the fiscal cliff. I bet none of you Democrats are even remotely willing to admit how much Barney Franks tinkering with Fannie and Freddie blew up the economy. Oh no, way to easy to put blame elsewhere. So what is your intelligent dear leader doing to fix things? Nothing!!!!! And you really want us to give him four more years of nothing?

        • The POTUS on October 25, 2012 at 11:46 pm

When Bush walked into the WH the economy was strong when he left it was in a shit hole.

Obama has been bringing it back as much as government can do. Mitts plan is to get in the driver’s seat and steer the bus right into a wall.

          • Moira on October 26, 2012 at 1:57 am

Revisionist history. Bush had a Democratic Congress in his 2nd term and whenever Congress is controlled by Democrats, let alone a Dem President, the USA becomes a socialist nation. Democratic politicians know one thing about problem solving — borrow, tax, and throw money at everything. The Dem Congress killed the economy between 2004 – 2008. And then because most people don’t understand how the government works, you and your other kool-aid drinkers, threw the Nation really under the bus by voting for this teleprompter preacher who gives speeches and plays golf. And even with having a Dem Congress for half of his term in office, he couldn’t get anything working other than to create the biggest tax this Nation will ever know in his horrific Obamacare. Obama has offered no solutions; he is a cancer to this wonderful nation, and he has followers like you who are sheep to his role as cult leader. Get your facts straight.

          • The POTUS on October 26, 2012 at 3:02 am

Passing the buck is what that is. You can twist it all you like. The GOP killed the economy. Corporations have made some of the biggest profits under Obama and all people like you do is moan about how little he did. He saved the auto industry and has turned the economy in the right direction while dealing with a do nothing Congress.

GOP deregulation more than anything opened the door for banks to rip people off. Mitts plan more of the same.

          • Goonions on October 26, 2012 at 4:47 am

Sorry there Potus but you need to tell us how much the dems desire to give home loans to everybody and his brother caused the problem. The banks were told to make the loans by your dem brotherhood or they would face the consequences. Besides, loan officers do not stand there with a gun to someone’s head and make them sign loans. The problem with you people is that you always see the problem from the tail end. You have no idea how to determine the cause. I dare you to google “Bush warned about housing crisis” or McCain warned about it. Quote from Barney Frank below.

”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

          • Goonions on October 26, 2012 at 4:48 am

For the dems it was all about affordable housing for their voting block and you know it. You are in denial my friend. Your people deregulated it.

          • MikeN on October 26, 2012 at 8:23 am

Economy was not strong. Already entering into recession. March 2001 is listed as the official start date. So apparently you think George Bush managed to destroy the economy in 40 days, when Democrats in the Senate weren’t even letting his Cabinet members get confirmed quickly.

          • memory hole on October 26, 2012 at 8:29 am

Pure BS. Nobody made anyone give loans and the crash was from the mbs scam not because of hard working people not making payments. It all happened due to GOP policy the same types of policy Mittens is ready to flush what’s left of the economy down the toilet with if he wins.

Obama does suck in many ways but he will be far better for America than Mr. Magic under garments.

      • milos mikos on October 26, 2012 at 6:12 am

Sadly Mr. Potus, you are one of the duped. Does Bush bear some blame?… yes, he, admittedly, abandoned free market principles in favor of a Socialist solution because he stupidly listened to his stupid economic advisers that told him the economy would collapse if those stupid steps were not taken. Now we have a stupid president following the same stupid Socialist solutions whom now has more than tripled the mess started by the Bush Bailout (see, you should love Bush, he started what you advocate under your fearless leader!). There is far more to it than that, but in simple terms, “Goonions” below has it correct. Better yet, read economist Thomas Sowell’s in depth explanation on why our economy fell in a heap. But no matter, you are so indoctrinated that you will refuse to believe the truth, so I won’t bother going into more depth here. But hey, why worry, chances are you will get your wish, 4 more years of pseudo Socio-Marxist Obama’s policies, just what you want. However, you might consider an old saying..”be careful of what you ask for, for you just might get it”. In closing I have a slogan you might like to use, as I believe Obama will win again…”Yes we did, and did again!”. Then as previously stated, you can kiss America and freedom goodbye. Bye

Powell is showing support for Obama for the reason so many other African Americans are voting for Obama – not looking beyond skin color. I thought Powell was above that sort of racist thing, but he is not. He went against his friend, McCain, to vote for a “brother” and now is supporting BO again to not “lost face”. He wore the Republican hat to move up in politics. I have no respect for this man. He lost any credibility in 2008 when he supports this socialist, inept do-nothing and now, well, I think what Powell did to the Republican Party in 2008 bit him where the sun doesn’t shine, so he keeps the Republican label to act like even a conservative politician will vote for BO. The Republican Party doesn’t want him, so he has to now “kiss up” to the Dem Party. He is not fiscally conservative, and he’s looking like he is not as intelligent as he tried to portray himself to be. To say the economy is okay and looks like we’re coming out of it with the debt BO has gotten this Nation into and the mess in the Middle East because Obama doesn’t have a clue what to do, Powell is either trying to “get back” at the Republican Party, the party that made him rich, or he is just ignorant about economics and, dare I say it, foreign affairs. I think he and BO deserve each other, and I hope the Republican Party keeps their door of opportunities closed to him. Which way the wind blows….that’s the kind of guy Powell is. He is mediocre at best.
