The War on Women: What Bill Press and NPR Choose to Overlook

March 18, 2012

Tim Graham at NewsBusters has an account of the liberal NPR dinosaur, Bill Press, claiming that basically everybody except the “progressives” and Democrats are waging a “war on women”. Graham quotes the old windbag as saying:

“Boy, this has me really burned up,” he began. “There is a war on women going on. It’s a war on women that’s being conducted by Republicans in the House, you expect that. By Republicans in the Senate, you expect that. But, it’s also being led by the Catholic bishops of this country, which is outrageous and which is wrong. Well you might say of course the Catholic Bishops are part of the war on women, you know they won’t allow women to become priests in the Catholic Church. They won’t allow Priests to get married because there’s something wrong with living with a woman, or having sex with a woman. I mean they’ve got this anti-woman thing built into them.”

This is a perfect example of what I’ve been writing about. None of this is about being anti-contraception or blocking women from healthcare. This whole issue revolves around forcing Catholic organizations to dispense abortifacient drugs in direct opposition to their religious teachings. Nancy Pelosi brought this issue to the forefront thought the use of 30 year old activist and professional student, Sandra “Democrat Blow Up Sex Doll” Fluke and her vendetta against a university and a policy that was known before she was admitted – as a matter of fact, this policy was the very reason she chose to go there.

The only way that the “progressive logic” works is for them to create a complete different argument and rail against a position that not a single member of the opposition holds – all the while ignoring that there is a real “war against women” ongoing in the US and abroad, sponsored by something they call the “Religion of Peace”.

Press is simply too much of a coward to address that situation, he would rather hide behind his NPR coffee mug and rail about issues that are imaginary and therefore irrelevant.

If Press thinks that the Catholic Church is waging “war” on women by not giving free $9 a month birth control pills or in some way are blocking the unfortunate Sandra from going to Planned Parenthood and picking up a few condoms (condoms are so hard to get that they are handing them out to 12 year-olds like candy), I wonder what he would call this:

A jury in Canada has found three members of an Afghan family guilty of drowning three teenage sisters and another woman in what the judge described as “cold-blooded, shameful murders” resulting from a “twisted concept of honour”. The verdicts concludes a case that shocked Canadians.

Prosecutors said the defendants killed the three teenage sisters because they felt they had dishonoured the family by defying its strict rules on dress, dating, socialising and using the internet.

The jury took 15 hours to convict Muhammad Shafia, 58; his wife Tooba Yahya, 42; and their son Hamed, 21. They were each found guilty of four counts of first-degree murder, which carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Or this:

Angry Moroccans are demanding a change to the country’s strict Islamic penal code after a 16-year-old girl killed herself after being forced to marry her rapist.

An online petition, a Facebook page and countless tweets expressed horror over the suicide of Amina Filali, who swallowed rat poison on Saturday in protest at her marriage to the man who raped her a year earlier.

Article 475 of the Moroccan penal code allows for the ‘kidnapper’ of a minor to marry his victim to escape prosecution, and it has been used to justify a traditional practice of making a rapist marry his victim to preserve the honour of the woman’s family.

 Or this:

A teenage Muslim girl was stoned to death under ‘Sharia law’ after taking part in a beauty contest in Ukraine.

Katya Koren, 19, was found dead in a village in the Crimea region near her home.

Friends said she liked wearing fashionable clothes and had come seventh in a beauty contest.

Her battered body was buried in a forest and was found a week after she disappeared.

Police have opened a murder investigation and are looking into claims that three Muslim youths killed her, claiming her death was justified under Islam.

One of the three – named as 16-year-old Bihal Gaziev – is under arrest and told police that Katya had ‘violated the laws of Sharia’. Gaziev has said he has no regrets about her death.

Or this:

Amina Said, 18, and her sister Sarah, 17, smile happily in one widely circulating photo, and Amina is wearing what looks like a sweatshirt bearing the name “AMERICAN.” But their fate may have been the herald of a new, disquieting feature of the American landscape: honor killing. Amina and Sarah were shot dead in Irving, Texas, on New Year’s Day. Police are searching for their father, Yaser Abdel Said, on a warrant for capital murder.

The girls’ great aunt, Gail Gartrell, told reporters, “This was an honor killing.” She explained that Yaser Said had long abused the girls, and after discovering that they had boyfriends, had threatened to kill them — whereupon their mother fled with them. “She ran with them,” said Gartrell, “because she knew he would carry out the threat.” But Said found them, and apparently did carry it out.

 Or this:

A 12-year-old Christian girl was kidnapped and repeatedly raped for eight months in Pakistan by a man who then falsified marriage documents with her, it was claimed today.

The girl was lured on a shopping trip in Lahore by a friend, before she was driven 120 miles to Tandianwalla and raped by the friend’s uncle in January this year.

Two days later, she was forced to sign papers consenting to marriage with the man and beaten for refusing to convert from Christianity to Islam.

A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced a woman to 10 lashes for breaking the country’s ban on female drivers.

The woman, identified only as Shema, was found guilty of driving in Jeddah in July.

Women2drive, which campaigns for women to be allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, says she has already lodged an appeal.

In recent months, scores of women have driven vehicles in Saudi cities in an effort to put pressure on the monarchy to change the law.

The sentence comes two days after the Saudi leader King Abdullah announced women would be allowed to vote for the first time in 2015.

Two other women are due to appear in court later this year on similar charges, correspondents say.

Or this:

The U.S. journalist who was brutally beaten and sexually assaulted by Egyptian riot police as she covered the Tahrir Square protests has posted a photo online which shows both her arms in plaster.

New York-based Mona Eltahawy, 44, tweeted the picture, which shows casts on her broken left arm and right hand, to demonstrate the ‘brutality’ of Egyptian police.

She claimed they hit her with large sticks, groped her breasts and tried to push their hands down her trousers – before detaining her for 12 hours with ‘no real reason’.

The American-Egyptian said: ‘I am speaking out to shame them for what they did. As I was being assaulted it was as if I was set on by a bunch of beasts.

‘This is not the Egypt we love and not what the revolution is about. The reason we are having this revolution is to stop that kind of brutality, and they (the military) will not hijack our revolution.’

She is not the only one to have been sexually assaulted, as France 3 TV reporter Caroline Sinz has also said she too was abused while covering the anti-military protests with her cameraman in Tahir Square.

CBS News correspondent Lara Logan was assaulted and sexually abused by an Egyptian crowd last week during the celebration of President Hosni Mubarak’s decision to step aside.

Logan, a veteran foreign correspondent, was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for “60 Minutes” on Feb. 11 when “she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration,” CBS News said in a statement published on their website today.

“In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers,” read the statement.

So a religious organization refusing to administer a birth control pill to a 30 year old woman who should be making enough money by now to pay for it herself is a “war on women”? I wonder what the women of countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan would have to say about that or for that matter what Mona Eltahawy, Caroline Sinz or Lara Logan would have to say.

“Progressives” are happy to lie, ignore, deflect and muddy the water as long as they see a political advantage for their side, making up false evils when legitimate and immediate evil already exists.

By the way, the lead picture is of a 13-year-old Saudi schoolgirl who was given 90 lashes in front of her classmates after she was caught with a mobile camera phone.

Bill Press is a senile, hateful old fool and a coward, a worthless fossil and a charter member of the Society for Progressive Alchemy. By creating a false meme and not speaking out against Islam’s real war against women, he reveals himself as an incredible and evil partisan hack.

Oh great….Utahprez has come back to treat everyone again to his/her special brand of lying, anger and over

“This whole issue revolves around forcing Catholic organizations to dispense abortifacient drugs in direct opposition to their religious teachings.”

No. It. Is. Not. Catholic “organizations” that also dispense health care have been giving away birth control (not ABORTIFACIENT) for a long time before they decided to turn it into a political issue and attack Obama and the Dems. In fact, most rank-and-file Catholics have NO PROBLEM with the issue at all, only a few loud mouthed politically minded bishops. So essentially the church leadership is trying to insert itself into policy debate in a highly charged, hypocritical and partisan manner.

    And you side with them.

And you want people to take you seriously on issues of public policy?

This is an issue of Insurance (risk distribution) and health care (the pill is used for MANY other purposes than contraception).

But I take it your verbal diarrhea (as usual) means you actually think this issue has some kind of political legs…good luck with that Slick. Your party has sided with one of the most anti-Women institutions mankind has ever invented (only outdone by many Muslim sects)…the Catholic church. About, oh, half the electorate is gonna be getting an earful of all of your Misogynist bullcrap from now till November…

Oh, and tell me what makes the delusional beliefs of theists more important than those of a woman (who may or may not herself be Catholic and therefore not beholden to the same belief system) or a doctor?

What a joke. Yes, the Lord will come down from the sky and personally give women exactly what they need as long as they pray hard enough to Their God, and to men, who their god believes are superior to women in every way and thus they hold the ultimate authority as a matter of fundamental Catholic belief.

    Is that about right?

    1) The Catholic has the 1st Amendment right not to be responsible for acts they believe are mortal sins, and

    2) The women can still avail herself of birth control, abortifacients, or even abortion, in accordance with her beliefs, her doctors’ beliefs, the man down the streets’ beliefs’, the beliefs of the Democrat Party, the beliefs of the Comintern, or the beliefs of the Flying Spaghetti Monster…she just doesn’t have the right to force the Catholic to PAY for them, in violation of his beliefs. And if you don’t understand that, then you understand nothing.

    Bizman (the idiot)

Many Catholic churches are SELF insured and so obviously you don’t have the slightest clue what you’re talking about, moron.

  6. MikeN on March 19, 2012 at 12:58 pm

And who do you think is buying the insurance?

  7. P. Tillman on March 19, 2012 at 2:45 pm

Sockpuppet (coward) poster: “Many Catholic churches are SELF insured ”

“On Jan. 20, (HHS Secretary Sebelius) said this mandate would take effect in August for most employers. Churches would be exempted from the rule, she said, but not religiously affiliated hospitals, colleges or charities, though they would be given an extra year to comply. Administration officials said that 28 states, including California and New York, already have similar rules for health insurance.”

“Catholic bishops say they remain opposed to President Obama’s plan to require insurers to provide free birth control, even if religiously affiliated employers such as Catholic hospitals and universities aren’t forced to pay for it.”

“The statement, issued late Friday, makes clear that the bishops’ opposition goes well beyond the “religious freedom” dispute that had riled Washington for the last month. The government’s decision to guarantee that women have access to contraceptives “remains a grave moral concern,” they said.”

Sockpuppet (coward) poster: “ obviously you don’t have the slightest clue what you’re talking about, moron.”

Clearly you were gazing into the mirror when uttering this last comment…

Kudos to Ireland and Bristol Palin, Brickbats to the Corrupt MSM

Some events and people receive insufficient public plaudits for outstanding contributions to the progress of humanity or to exposing political hypocrisy. Other people receive either commendation for their degradation of American culture or scant notice of their foul commentary by the mainstream media.

Following are a few examples of under-reported events and individuals and a number that exemplify the remarkably uncivil and hate-filled atmosphere that permeates America’s left wing.

IRELAND: In a stunning rebuke of the United Nations and evidence that The Land of Saints and Scholars hasn’t totally lost its soul, the government of the Republic of Ireland has refused to accede to U.N. pressure to violate Ireland’s constitution by legalizing the practice of murdering pre-born human babies.

According to National Right to Life News Today, “In rejecting the UN recommendations, Ireland stood by its sovereign right to make its own laws and uphold its constitutional protection for unborn children while assisting mothers during pregnancy and childbirth.”

In doing so, the Irish government has concurred with the Irish people who have repeatedly rejected legalizing abortion in various referenda, a decision never accorded the American people by our government.

BRISTOL PALIN: The eldest daughter of Sarah and Todd Palin has written a letter to President Barack Hussein Obama acquainting him with his hypocrisy and insensitivity toward women, his wife, and his daughters by not condemning Bill Maher for his repulsive comments about the Palins and women in general by not rejecting Maher’s million dollar gift to an Obama PAC.

In her respectful missive, the twenty-one year old Bristol admits her past mistakes in conceiving an out of wedlock child and attests she has found “forgiveness and redemption” in God, something Bill Maher will never find.

Ms. Palin cites Maher’s reference to her Down Syndrome brother saying, I was “f—-d so hard a baby fell out.” She fails to mention Maher’s description of her mother as a “c*nt” and his other misogynistic comments and wonders why the president hasn’t called her to express his indignation and support yet has accepted Maher’s million.

(In a related story, the FLOTUS, Lady O, appeared on Letterman Monday and Dirty Dave obsequiously groveled before his “lovely” guest. There were no references to Maher or to Dirty Dave’s calling Sarah Palin slutty nor to his hilarious comment that Bristol’s underage sister engaged in sex with Alex Rodriquez out in left field at Yankee Stadium.)

Brickbats should be tossed in the direction of Obama’s mainstream media which has successfully concealed our president’s radical past and radical agenda as well as condoning obscene and hateful remarks by Obama aficionados.

One recently-uncovered news item concerning the source of the mysterious funding that enabled a poor, semi-black kid from Hawaii to attend prestigious and expensive Harvard University has escaped notice by the MSM.

It turns out, as per the recollections of a humble public servant, a postman who delivered mail to the home of the parents of unrepentant terrorist, Bill Ayers, Obama got to Harvard not on his good looks but thanks to the beneficence of Ayers’ Marxist parents, Tom and Mary Ayers, who thought Obama was a foreigner.

The parents virtually adopted the young Barry Obama and bankrolled Barry’s college expenses since the future president fit the Ayers’ hopes for a communist revolution in America.

The now-retired postman, Allen Hulton, recalls Mary Ayers enthusiastically praising Obama, whom she thought might be Kenyan, and remembers once meeting Obama outside the Ayers’ home. Out of the blue, he told Hulton he planned to become president.

To determine Mr. Hulton’s credibility, see the full story and a video of an interview with the letter carrier here.

For more than four years, the mainstream media have failed to do their job by reporting on Obama’s connections with any of the Ayers, with Bernardine Dohrn, or with any other revolutionary associates of the president.

The MSM has also fumbled the “slut ball” ever since Rush Limbaugh used the derogatory term to describe leftist activist, Sandra Fluke. . . (Read more at

    Hey P.Tillpussy (coward) asshole.

Your copy and paste quote above doesn’t change the fact that self insured churches DO have to pay for that mandate under penalty of law. You’re such an blind idiot.

Fools like you only see what they want to see and the fact remains that self insured churches must pay for the mandate – but you’re too stupid to understand why.
