Has Charles Johnson (Little Green Footballs) jumped the shark?
I got an e-mail recently from a PoliPundit reader who had been banned from commenting on Little Green Footballs for some very mild dissent. I hadn’t read or thought of Little Green Footballs since they did some great work on Rathergate.
Well, it looks like our reader is not the only one having trouble with Little Green Footballs, whose latest obsession is finding fault (erroneously) with the Tea Parties. Glenn Beck calls Charles Johnson out (skip to minute 7 of the video), and the comments aren’t pretty either.
As to the Burn the books! post that caught Beck’s attention, it appears to me the the woman screaming “burn the books” is the same woman holding the video camera, who seems to have infiltrated only a couple dozen people hanging out at a bar.
I’d comment on Johnson’s site, but he requires registering.

Charles Johnson appears to combine the worst traits of Joe McCarthy, Anthony Fremont and a consummate dhimmi. And that is just from what I know about him.
He thinks that Robert Spencer, Diana West (who even happens to be Jewish) and Geert Wilders are all neo-fascists.
The man has been rapidly going downhill for some time and is now quite mad.

I started reading conservative blogs during the last election. I became aware of LGF about that time and gravitated away from there after reading the latest slam against anyone who stepped outside his orthodoxy. Those who live by natural selection are will die by natural selection. Meaning LGF got friendly traffic from people he despises. He is currently gathering his sycophants closer and closer and repelling anyone without knee-pads.

LGF is perpetually hysterical about the prospect of Creationism or ID being taught in the schools as an alternative theory alongside evolution. Judging by the content of the site it seems that he thinks peace and prosperity will reign forever if only we keep to the script, i.e. all things evolved out of a meaningless void for no reason. This is what Charles Johnson considers of utmost importance. For it to be suggested that the universe came about deliberately is something that will intellectually disable our children and cause utter and complete catastrophe.
I post this here because I’ll be damned if I’ll register at his non-atheist bashing crap site.

I hate little green footballs….probably one of my most hated websites.
Mostly because they are constantly making shit up about Ron Paul. They like to post a story about Ron Paul at least one a month followed by a hat tip as to where they found the story, which is almost always stormfront or some neonazi website..along with other antics they do, which aren’t coming to mind right now.

Johnson, like Hitchens, always was a leftist, and supported the war on terror for different reasons.
Many on the right assumed Hitchens had seen the light when he broke with the left on the GWOT. But Hitchens never hated the Islamic nutjobs because he loved America. He hated them because they were religious.
Hitchens, and Chuck Johnson, want the same things done to Christians they want done to Islamas. That is, relentlessly pursued, driven into hiding and where possible killed.

At least take a moment to wonder to consider if there might be a ribbon of truth or, at least an opportunity, for reflection.” I really expected to have a reasonable discussion with the group, but Charles banned me from comments! I was so amazed at this reaction!! WOW!

Johnson is rapidly becoming a blog version of Captain Ahab in search of his great white whale i.e. evidence of right wing fundamentalists and their creationist, Intelligent Design plots on our schools. Sorry but on most sane peoples personal threat meters, creationists and Intelligent Design folks are right behind Vince the ShamWow guy. Every week he is opening up registrations because he is losing long time posters like mad. He also is becoming quite the O’Bama sycophant and as someone else posted – will probably throw Israel under the bus soon as well (using someone like Lieberman as his excuse). Too bad, lGF used to be a fine blog to hang around, I have not posted there in months. The comparisons to Christopher Hitchens are quite accurate and also to Andrew Sullivan (who used a bogus reason such as Bush’s opposition to gay marriage and “tor-chure”) to go over to the dark side. By the way Charles (since I know you read everything about your self) – tell Sharmuta that I know everything about her and who she is.

Well, at least some of you know why you were banned. I made what I considered a harmless comment (don’t even remember it), and came back a couple of days later and found my account blocked.
Many regulars at Protein Wisdom have had the same events happen to them. Some of them hadn’t even visited LGF for months. Moral of the story, don’t use the same handle on LGF that you use elsewhere, because if Charles can make any connection, you’re history.

We all know what a “troll” is.
The singer/songwriter Moby called for people to post outlandish statements on right leaning blogs to discredit them. Th person who does this is now called a “Moby”.
I think the term “Charles Johnson” will soon mean a successful blog proprietor who begins to act like a troll on his own site who then bans the people who take his bait – thereby throwing his relevance and respect into a death spiral.
BTW, LGF’s traffic is way way down over the last few months. When I started to see the bans I checked the traffic.

I was a regular reader of LGF during the 2004 elections & the rathergate fiasco.
Now – I have almost forgotten about the site. CJ’s obsession with Evolution has driven me away. He has a few regular rude commentators who pick up his slack in the comment section & turn alot of people away. They seem to be hyper sensitive to opposing viewpoints.
Seriously – I think the man is having a mental breakdown or is seriously OCD. I mean – who pounds away on certain subjects day after day after day like he does…only to prove HIS point?
I’ve found with his evolution rant that his writing is slanted and not to be trusted, that’s the main reason I don’t even open the site up anymore.

I was a registered user at LGF since 2004. It used to be a great site, but it has degenerated into a anti-believer site, which is a shame. My account was blocked in February when I down-dinged (thumbs down) an anti-Beck post. I thought Charles had misrepresented Glenn. I never posted a comment, just thumbs down on Charles’ post. To be honest, Charles did me a favor by blocking my account. I was drifting away from LGF because of all the anti-creationist talk. Now, I don’t even read it anymore. I’m not really angry, just depressed about this turn of events.

I just got banned after being a member for about 4 years. My crime? I simply suggested that Johnson had “lost it” for equating the Obama bow before the Saudi King to Bush’s bending over to accept an award from him. That’s it. Banned! He just couldn’t handle any mild criticism.
Charles Johnson has thin skin and has lost his sense of fair mindedness. He no longer respects free speech nor celebrates differences of opinion. He now runs an echo chamber full of sycophants just like all the pathetic lib blogs.
What a shame. Charles Johnson was once a giant among bloggers, but is now a shadow of his former self.
As Reggie says: Charles Johnson = David Frum = Andrew Sullivan = David Brock.
These traitors are all the same. They deserve nothing but our contempt.

I was just banned last night from LGF. I pretty much agree with everyone else here.
I first learned of LGF due to the fake documents about Bush. At that point I was looking for a political blog that was more moderate than the screaming type blogs I had had contact with previously. A couple of months ago, though, I began to notice a change at LGF even though I was never a dedicated poster.
Last night I was accused of racism because I accurately pointed out that the LGF website was a site that tracked Muslim extremism and that it had previously acknowledged that at this moment in time, Muslim extremists were more prevalent than other extremists. I was accused of racism because “You obviously are a racist because you want us to take off posts criticizing Neo-Nazis and put things on there about Muslims.” – from one of the minions. HUH? Calling me racist would be the equivalent of calling Coach Pete Carroll a racist. That’s all I’ll say about that other than it is/was a ridiculous assumption and not based in any kind of fact.
So, I replied, “If you think what I just said is racist, then you might not want to go through the LGF archives, because you’ll call a lot more people racist after reading the archives.” Charles banned me. His comment “I’ll ban your account before you embarrass yourself.” Embarrass myself? LOL.
The only embarrassment shown is by a man who runs his site like Jim Jones and who brooks absolutely no dissension whatsoever no matter how polite the criticism takes. He has his own little Jonestown, Guyana going on there.
This little corner of the net has become eerily like the Obama/press relationship. Charles can do no wrong, and if you criticize him, no matter how politely, you have a group of posters come out you from all angles. They’ll shout you down, ding you down, accuse you of all sorts of crimes, and call you, and this seems to be the worst of the worst, a “Moby” or a troll.
His groupies remind me of the sobbing guy screaming on the internet, “Leave Britney ALONE!”
He could go on family feud with his supporters and it would go something like this: Richard Dawson – “Name something red!” Charles – “GREEN!!!” Charles “family” – “GOOD ANSWER!! GOOD ANSWER!!!”
Emperor Charles I has no clothes and it’s off with your head if you point that out. When that little house of cards comes crashing down, watch out.
I’m surprised Charlie’s Family hasn’t come out swinging more before now, judging by how long this has actually gone on. He probably does read this blog, because he is utterly obsessed with people who criticize him. He had a list of about 8 posts in a row discussing criticism of him by several different people.

Today I read a post and rated the comments, which apparently Capt. Thin Skin didn’t like and I got blocked for it.
He’s done some good work in the past and it’s a shame his megalomania has led to this.

I have blogged on LGF for years but have just decided to fade away before he can ban me. I do not agree with his stance on evolution, the tea parties, Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, the way the Repub party should go etc…I check over there from time-to-time but find that the traffic is slowing down. It definitely is not the LGF that I saw from a year ago. He did a great thing in exposing Dan Rather but he has gone off the edge and I can no longer in good conscience post there. To those on the left that think this is some kind of meltdown on right wing blogs I say you are dead wrong. This just proves that right wing blogs are alive and well. CJ is not a right winger, he’s an athiest moderate at best. I will take Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh over this nutcase any day.

Charles’s and the responsive blog entries are starting to sound like a left wing echo chamber. In case you forgot, the Islamists still want to kill you and me. Leave Monckton alone and focus on the Muslim Brotherhood in America. Islamism is a far greater threat to Western civilization and life on Earth than creationism, global warming (cooling) and Robert Spencer.

I am done with Charles Johnson. He has become a liar and smear merchant.
I thought in the past he had a very intelligent blog, but it has disintegrated badly. It actually was my #1 bookmark for years. Since I can no longer post any dissent — rational dissent — I quit. I have defended him on other blogs in the past, but he gone off the deep end.
I know he is a liberal and not a conservative and is often mistakenly lumped with conservative bloggers, but he cannot make cogent points any longer.
The rest of the posters on this blog are dead on right. I hope for Charles’ sake he sees a good shrink. He needs one badly.

I just got banned yesterday. I never posted much over the three years I visited, so when I got banned everybody was looking at my stats and congratulating each other on catching a “Paul Troll.” I find it really quite sad to see him spinning downward in paranoia. I wish him well.

Wow. I’ve read almost every comment here and I had no idea how many folks have been blocked.
I was banned yesterday. After a particularly brutal session of anti-creationism hysteria where the most common weapon was “proof by confident assertion” pompously wielded against any fools who question Darwinist dogma, I wrote something like:
Charles,
You have again cautioned the denizens here about bickering and ganging up because it turns off and scares away guests and members. I respectfully submit that it’s too late for that. I think a vital segment of the population here has already fled. What seems to be left are mostly arrogant elitists.
And no I wasn’t surprised at being blocked.
I went back to see if there was anything else of interest posted on that topic and I found a very reasonable plea to Charles about fairness and tolerance. The poster ended with the statement, “Charles, you’re better than that.”
Apparently not.

I asked to be removed from LGF registration when it became apparent that CJ had either a)had a frontal lobotomy b) had fallen madly in love with a wild-eyed liberal c) was terrified of being called a “racist” if he didn’t just adore everything Obama did or d) all of the above.
Prior to January 2009, there were many thoughtful posts and links which certainly broadened my knowledge, but I feel that with the election over, Charles felt he needed to “move on” to other topics (creationism, etc.) to maintain interest. That’s when he lost my interest.
I did have some great times in the Lizard Lounge bantering with fellow lizards. Many of them rank among the funniest, most intelligent folks I’ve ever known.
Now, I rely on Michelle Malkin, Gateway Pundit and a few other conservative blogs that doggedly pursue the truth about the leftist agenda…and yes, I listen to Glenn Beck.

I’m really saddened by this thread. It has confirmed to me a fundamental change in Charles’ attitude. I used to feel that were on roughly the same side but I no longer agree.
I remember the anti-war protests. There were an awful lot of blatently anti-semetic and openly communist protesters. There were signs that said things like “ZioNazi” and “Death to Israel” and “Communism is the ANSWER” and the like.
For every one of those extremists, there were hundreds of ordinary protesters who simply ignored them and concentrated on what they were there for — to protest the war.
Now we have a parallel situation, where there are upwards of a million people in the streets protesting the Obama administration, and a handful of extremists passing out unwelcome literature. I’d like to see a poll to find out just what percentage of today’s protesters have even HEARD of the John Birch society. I’ll bet it’s miniscule.
Yet the irrelevant handful of John Birchers are somehow the SUBJECT — the TOPIC of the only thread on LGF dedicated to covering the protest. Let’s say for argument’s sake that the Birchers have mustered a thousand activists to pass out their literature — which would be an enormous number of leafleters. That would mean that they would be outnumbered by more than a thousand to one by people who don’t care about the John Birch society. Maybe 10,000 to 1 or 100,000 to 1, depending on how many representatives the Birchers have working the crowds.
Yet Charles and LGF have chosen to define the protests by the presence of a tiny number of representatives of a fringe organization.
What exactly are the million people on the Mall who are NOT members or supporters of the John Birch Society supposed to be doing? Shouting them down? Intimidating them? Hanging them from lampposts?
Or ignoring them, just as the thousands of legitimate anti-war protesters ignored the racists and antisemites who turned up at their rallies.
Given that this is the only thread on LGF about the protest, the subject chosen for this thread is exactly the sort of media bias that I used to come to this site to see exposed and denounced.

What’s happened to LGF is kind of wierd. Unlike other bloggers or columnists whose view have “evolved”, CJ appears to have turned on a dime. Did he just grow bored of Islamo-fascism? I cannot remember in the distant past CJ ever getting so obsessed with Christians, Creationists, or “fringe conservatives”. Is he having a mid-life crisis?I’ve followed LGF before 2004, and I have been a member since 2004. In the past it was full of some very witty people; now, more and more the same kind of people CJ used to castigate run the threads. In short, his site has become boring and predictable.
I also get the impression that CJ fanccies himself, because he’s a web programmer, some kind of guardian of science. I’ve seen his kind before. CJ’s latest attack is on AGW skeptics, and he is fairly rude to them. CJ doesn’t argue the science; he just links to Pro-AGW web sites and repeats the meme that the science is settled. I’m suprised I haven’t been banned yet, as I pointed out a number of times that his sources are quite dated, attempted to clear the air a bit. Like thousands of others, I now avoid the site.

Count me as a long time reader of the place, that got fed up with the direction Chuckie was going with the blog.
It was a lot of things – the anti-Creationist/anti-Christian rants, the berating of anybody who didn’t agree w/ global warming, and finally the smearing of certain people as alleged white supremacists.
I lurked over there for the longest, just to see if he would ever return to reason. Oh well, guess not…..
My reason for being banned? My guess, is down dinging his rant on Senator Inhofe. So petty, so freakin’ petty.
But I’m glad know I’m not alone, and the exiles are in the majority.

Charles Johnson is the only sane voice on the right. His main fear–which I share–is that the right wing wing will get so worked up about Obama that they’ll cause harm to our country and destroy our status in the world.
Americans need to stop squabbling amongst themselves about abortion, evolution, religion, and other trivial issues, and focus on what is the only really important issue: reducing our debt to china, and re-working our economy in such a way that we no longer need to increase our net foreign indebtedness.
The Chinese are grinning each time they hear one of you folks call for revolution, killing Obama, or breaking away from the Union. they should send you guys, since you’re so busy fostering bad feeling and hatred of your own country and president, a big thank-you letter for your efforts to accelerate America’s decline and improve their stature in the world.
What’s more important to you – christianity, evolution, abortion, and all that crap, or the United States?

Find me a photo of anyone denouncing someone with a Hitler sign. Just one. Surely if this was not acceptable, there must have been some incidents of people telling the Hitler-pimps to get lost, right?

While I can’t immediately find (or expect to find) a “Stop calling Obama Hitler” sign on the net, I do have some anecdotal evidence. I attended a tea party in Van Nuys in April, and the crowd was at least 95% very cool. Unfortunately, there was a group of people handing out signs, and when I was offered one of the nirther variety I made it very clear to the distributor that that was totally not cool. I’m sure plenty of people at the DC rally made clear their disapproval of this nonsense, but that sort of thing is difficult to photograph.

Well, my account at LGF was blocked today apparently becaused I updinged a comment that two other people had down-dinged. I don’t know how to contact Charles to ask why – I’ve been reading LGF since 9/11 and in the past it was filled with witty, intelligent comments some of which made me laugh out loud. That wonderful, free exchange has certainly been dampened this year. I used to love LGF and go there first, but Charles is just a mean bully now, surrounded by yesmen (and women).

I registered at LGF a couple of years ago and enjoyed much of the content. I went back there today 10/11/09 and it was as if the whole site changed, totally different flavor. I think living out on the “left coast” has finally affected his ideology. Main thing he does now is bash the so called “religious right” and any conservative that wants to dig deeper into the current administration. I think its a love affair with Obama that has transformed charles into a obamamaton. I wont be going back there.

I was just banned today from LGF. The whole creationist rant became an obsession on the site and I had stopped visiting. It was once an interesting place where I would spend the evening in the lounge and basically have a great time researching his musical suggestions.
Today it was like Bizarro world returning to the site. I posted four or five questions. Nothing vulgar, threatening, or breaking the rules. Charles posted that I was an extremist and pointed to my avatar of a medieval knight (calling it a crusader), and blocked me, which I presume means I am banned? No chance of answering his insults or replying to his acolyte’s insults.
I’m a medieval historian (hence the avatar) and minister. My questions were based on things such a LGF claiming they support the theory of Global Warming (this question was deleted), and trying to understand how he could possibly think Glen Beck was trying to associate Fox news with Jews during the Holocaust.
Charles’ behavior represents some very disturbing symptoms. Pray for the poor man.

I was banned because I pointed out that calling the folks over at Hot Air, “Morlocks” was not really a constructive argument in a thread dedicated to how people at Hot Air are saying bad things about LGF. I figured I would be banned because I’ve noticed recently that he does not allow ANY criticism of himself, which is never a healthy thing. Oh well, I guess I’ll just remove LGF from favorites and move on.

I got banned at LFG for defending Rush Limbaugh. CJ just doesn’t tolerate ANY differences of opinion. Too bad.
