Rick Perry’s weakness on illegal immigration could very well cost him the presidency. And this isn’t the first time a politician has self-destructed because of his pro-illegal-immigrant stance.
Remember in 2007, when Hillary Clinton’s waffling on drivers’ licenses for illegal aliens marked the beginning of the end of her presidential candidacy?
Or how John McCain’s presidential candidacy was dead in the water until he suddenly became an immigration hawk? And who can forget this ad, which helped him get re-elected to the Senate:
It’s not just national races. In Nebraska, Governor Dave Heineman won his Republican primary – “one of the most surprising defeats in Nebraska political history” – almost entirely because his very popular opponent, Tom Osborne, supported in-state tuition for illegal aliens.
At every opportunity, voters have expressed themselves loudly and clearly on this issue. Why won’t the politicians listen? They seem to like illegal immigrants more than they like their own careers. If that sounds crazy, it is.
