They’ve been talking about that since it passed the Senate. The House can pass the Senate bill word-for-word and then the president can sign it. The procedure is nothing novel anyway.
March 11th, 2010 at 7:25 am
Unbelievable! What country are we living in? Its scary how hellbent these guys are on ramming this thing through.
March 11th, 2010 at 7:43 am
They’re talking about “saying” it’s passed without taking a vote.

Are you people for real? Republicans are using every dirty trick in the book to block anything and everything the Democrats propose. They return the favor in kind, and…*gasp*…THE HORROR!!! You can’t claim the moral high ground when your side is crawling through the sewer.
March 11th, 2010 at 8:00 am
because what the Dems propose Jake is crap that a majority of Americans do not want

‘House members are being told that they must vote for the Senate bill as a procedural step. But the bill would then be only a presidential signature away from becoming law. That is, House members might end up voting for the Senate’s Cornhusker Kickback, Louisiana Purchase, “Cadillac” tax, abortion coverage and other unpopular provisions — and then find it’s all become law.’

a majority of Americans do not want
An overwhelming majority of Americans want health care reform. The goal of the far right wing is to impede and distort that process as much as possible, in order to be able to both defeat health care reform, and state that Americans “do not want”.

A majority may want some form of hc reform
That is what I said. What planet are you living on?
just check realclearpolitics.com.
You mean, right wing source. Now wonder that you don’t understand America.
but they def do not want obamacare.
Emphasis on “Obamacare”, meaning that they don’t want the right wing interpretation of health care reform, which is my point.
March 11th, 2010 at 10:04 am
Should be “No wonder that…”

“An overwhelming majority of Americans want health care reform.”
An overwhelming majority of Americans prefer Climate controlled rooms to living outdoors but that doesn’t mean they want to be shoved in a box 6 feet under.
Sure, I would like some reforms, but this bill is a pile of CRAP, IMHO.
Why does everything have to serve to concentrate more and more power in the hands of DC?

Good point. But you forgot to mention Hitler. Free association is my favorite feature of this website.
Sure, I would like some reforms…
Like what.
Why does everything have to serve to concentrate more and more power in the hands of DC?
Watch out, idealists can become bitter in old age.

Uprisings and domestic terrorism are OK when the right does it.
Dope and change strikes again.

“Like what.”
Big one for me would be to allow for individuals to deduct the cost of Insurance from their taxes like companies do. Right now a big problem is everyone is tossed into these plans companies provide, and companies are more interested in all inclusive with benefits to keep the employees happy- the cost, while always a factor, is secondary. So you have single guys shelling out for plans that include maternity options. There is not a lot of negative market force the way it is set up. If the individuals were more involved in the process of shopping, choosing, and tailoring their plans, this would be a start (not the end all for sure).
The whole Businesses providing Medical Insurance came as a result of stupid wage freeze laws back in the post war period IIRC- that was part of how we got into this mess.
Better controls on waste and fraud goes without saying, streamling FDA approvals, rein in the lawsuits, and call La Migra whenever illegals show up in the emergency room (sure, treat ‘em first, I ain’t that cold blooded…)
Start there, see how that goes- check back in a couple years.
“Good point. But you forgot to mention Hitler.”
Hitler. I aim to please!

“Sure, I would like some reforms, but this bill is a pile of CRAP, IMHO.”
I’d venture a guess that you have little or no idea what is actually in “this bill” except for the lies that you have been told by your wingnut media mouthpieces.
Your every comment on the subject proves this. For example, here’s the latest: “Why does everything have to serve to concentrate more and more power in the hands of DC?”

“I’d venture a guess that you have little or no idea what is actually in “this bill” except for the lies that you have been told by your wingnut media mouthpieces.”
HA! Ya caught me- except it isn’t what “wingnut media tells me, it is just the snippets we(including you) are able to garner from sources all through the media, right, left whatever. Because nobody has a clue what the hell is exactly in this crapola sandwich we are being force fed. It is still being hammered out behind closed doors by the Democratic Caucus- yeah, that sounds like a good open process. Even Pelosi said she can’t wait for it to pass so we can all “find out what is in it”. Yes, the country is in the very best of hands….
I Heard one Democrat privy to the negotiations say there is now “75% agreement” between the House version which was passed(I thought was 90% raw sewage) and the Senate version(about 70% garbage and waste), so by simple extrapolation Crap is a fair approx.
As for the Centralization of Power in DC, isn’t that what is always occurring? How is this any different? Regulation is Power. Why the hell do we even have State governments anymore?

Forgot to add the word “Hitler” in my last post-
Sorry Pluto!

Warner, the only thing DC is good at is burying us citizens 14+ trillions dollars in debt. And everyone please spare me the argument that “oh, it’s ok when your guys are in charge putting us in debt”. NO! It is not OK – we, as a country cannot sustain this kind of federal government spending, period! How many of you took a pay hit of 5-10% during the economic downturn of 2008-2009(2010?)? I am looking for someone in DC to grow some balls and say the spending party is over. Instead of new entitlement programs, our federal government needs to CUT their budget by 10-20%, period! And until someone straps on those balls, ALL incumbents should be thrown out of office, until we find someone who will.

Pluto – “An overwhelming majority of Americans want health care reform.”
Then with a large majority in both Houses, you should have no trouble passing it.
March 11th, 2010 at 1:19 pm
“Warner, the only thing DC is good at is burying us citizens 14+ trillions dollars in debt.”
True as that may be, it’s not relevant to my point, which is that the bill DOES NOT “concentrate more power in DC” or is a “government take-over of healthcare”. Contrary to what Gerry has apparently gleaned from his various and sundry news sources.
March 11th, 2010 at 1:20 pm
“Then with a large majority in both Houses, you should have no trouble passing it.”
Yeah, right, like politicians in Washington always do what exactly what their constituents elected them to do.

Yes, and then you will continue to whine.

Pelosi said yesterday she has the votes to pass it. just waiting on the CBO numbers. Then straight to Obama’s desk for signature. The first step on the journey to crush capitalism and freedom and puppies…Muhahahhahahahahahaha!!!!!!
March 11th, 2010 at 1:59 pm
No whining here, you got that mantle cornered, Pluto. This is going to be a great 8-10 years for conservatives….better than ’84 or ’94. It’s actually entertaining watching you folks implode with substancial majorities……..unprecedented. Obama’s popularity dropping like a stone because of his policies. Good times. Win Win.
March 11th, 2010 at 2:02 pm
Jake – “Pelosi said yesterday she has the votes to pass it. just waiting on the CBO numbers.”
Yeah, and Pelosi’s been spot on up to this point.
March 11th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
Putting your trust in Captain Stubing at this point is bit of a gamble….don’t ya think?
March 11th, 2010 at 2:11 pm
Yeah, and Pelosi’s been spot on up to this point.
Actually she has. The house passed a HCR bill, did it not? And with a public option.
March 11th, 2010 at 2:30 pm
Then I guess we can expect the President to sign it tonight…….good one, Jake. I’ll catch you later, bro. Nice talking to you…..that next bus to Crazytown should be by in about five minutes.

I TOLD YOU- Obama lies, and his Daughters need to hide the damn dog.

March 11th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
Ooooo…that reminds me. Need to get tickets to the beer fest on the 27th. Got to love a venue where they say tickets are limited so attendees can drink an ample supply of beer.
Then I guess we can expect the President to sign it tonight…….good one, Jake.
That’s some mighty fine selective reading you did there. I thought Polipundit was Crazytown.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
“Forget it Jake, it’s Crazytown.”
I win.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
No, wait, I lose, because the nutters will accuse me of being a Polanski apologist.
March 11th, 2010 at 6:34 pm
BeerFest!
Another fine movie the Academy strangely passed up. How do they pick those things, anyways??? Bastards…
Love the banter, even if we cannot agree on everything (or anything), I love the debate- ever in Austin area I will spring for the first round.
Pluto-
Hitler.
March 12th, 2010 at 7:22 am
Austin!? Isn’t it full of hipsters, slackers, fixed gear bicyclists, and alternative rock bands? Austin probably has a nice chapter of the newly formed Coffee Party.
March 12th, 2010 at 3:11 pm
Chinatown and Beerfest. Two excellent movies, though both could have used more midgets.
