Religious “Tolerance”

A couple of stories that should make liberals’ heads explode.

First, a woman was shocked by finding swastikas on her Christmas wrapping paper, and has apparently gotten the shopkeeper to ban the paper in question. But the swastika is an ancient symbol for cycles, that is used almost as often in modern-day Hinduism and Buddhism as the cross is in Christianity. So, if liberals see the Dalai Lama surrounded by swastikas, should they a) Denounce him and ask for the swastikas to be removed or b) Respect his religion by allowing him to use swastikas?

Second, when the Fort Hood shooting occurred, the Old York Times held up one Michael Monsoor as an example of a Muslim soldier who received a Congressional Medal of Honor. Now comes this correction:

An article on Monday about difficulties for Muslims serving in the American armed forces described incorrectly the background of Michael A. Monsoor, a member of the Navy Seals. Mr. Monsoor was a Christian of Lebanese and Irish descent, not a Muslim.

Was the Times a) Correct in pointing out that someone with a Muslim-sounding name had earned a Medal of Honor or b) Guilty of prejudging Monsoor’s religion based on his name, just as liberals warned us not to do with Nidal Hasan?
