Silver lining on Kelo v. New London
In 2005, the fascist wing of the Supreme Court (Stevens, Bader Ginsburg, Souter, Kennedy, Breyer) ruled that local governments could use eminent domain to steal people’s houses to give to politically-connected developers.
On that terrible day, Susette Kelo lost her little pink house and we all lost a little liberty.
Today, things are looking a little better. Many state legislatures have restricted eminent domain against this kind of abuse. Susette Kelo has a new home in a nearby town. And the greedy city thugs and developers have not profited. The Wall Street Journal tells us:
While Ms. Kelo and her neighbors lost their homes, the city and the state spent some $78 million to bulldoze private property for high-end condos and other “desirable” elements. Instead, the wrecked and condemned neighborhood still stands vacant, without any of the touted tax benefits or job creation.
And to top it off, Pfizer, whose new facility started the land grab, has said hasta la vista and plans to shut down its R&D facility there, moving 1400 jobs out of town.
More detail on how New London regrets its crimes at the Examiner.

fascist wing of the Supreme Court
This statement implies that you can recognize fascism. Ten bucks you can’t give a working definition of fascism, off the top of your head.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
You ditchcarp lefties still think that fascism is a “right wing” movement. The lefties on the court made that ruling.
socialism==fascism in a velvet glove. Two peas in the same pod.
Today’s fascit party is now in control in washington. Who is it that wants to jail people for not buying health insurance??
November 11th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
Happens every time, ask a right winger for a definition of fascism, and they not only avoid the question with a non-answer, but repeat their use of the word.
How would you know if fascism is a “left-wing” or “right-wing” movement, if you can’t give a working definition of fascism?
You unrepentant moron.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
Who is it that wants to jail people for not buying health insurance?
Right wing meme, and fantasy.
You are an unrepentant moron.
November 11th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Hey Look! “PRINCETON, NJ — Republicans have moved ahead of Democrats by 48% to 44% among registered voters in the latest update on Gallup’s generic congressional ballot for the 2010 House elections, after trailing by six points in July and two points last month.”
Good thing we took OakLeaf’s advice and “embraced” the Obama Recovery.
November 11th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Oh, yeah….this for the PoliSci 101 student – “A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls and suppression of the opposition through terror and/or censorship.”
November 11th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Sorry, Spike, but the Google doesn’t count.
Happens every time, the right wing throws the word “fascism” around, but can’t deliver a definition without the Google.
November 11th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
You idiot gdlc:
Fascism is the collusion between government and the business sector, ion which each guarantees the success of the other, often by corrupt means, in order to maintain strict control of a society pursuant to a national goal or ideology.
It usually means dictatorship, and always means loss of liberty.
Rich countries collapse into fascism as the government takes control of the private sector and runs it, usually installing government stooges to run the companies, or at least co-opting management. Poor countries don’t have business sectors, so they collapse into communism and the government BECOMES the business sector.
There is not much difference between the two. American leftists dislike being called fascists, because they associate it with nationalism, and they hate America, and so deny the charge. In most fascist countries however, leftist policies of central planning, population control and secret police were prevalent along with nationalism. Germany and Italy, and the modern Arab states like Egypt, Sryia, and Iraq, which were specifically modeled on Hitlers’s Germany and Stalin’s USSR.
So you ARE the fascists, L, you gdlc, and you need to stop lying about what you lefties are all about, which is central planning, robbing of wealth and freedom, and coercive government service.
you gdlc.
Early symptoms of this in the USA was Bush trying to force amnesty and open borders on the very unwilling American people for the good of his Chamber of Commerce.
Obama has taken it much further, plowing under the finance sector and governing wages and loan customs, and attempting to take over the energy
Obama has done this
November 11th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Here is a very good summation of how the left calls the right nazis, while following their program to the letter….
http://washingtonindependent.com/56126/vet-to-congressman-pelosi-should-find-the-swastika-on-the-sleeve-of-her-own-arm
“I’ll remind you, a little history lesson. The Nazis were the National Socialist Party. They were leftists. They took over the finance, they took over the car industry, they took over health care in that country. If Nancy Pelosi wants to find a swastika, maybe the first place she should look is the sleeve of her own arm.”
November 11th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
One thing about the left that never changes. They never stop lying.
L has the BALLS to come on here and deny the left is fascist, and within 10 minutes he’s lying about the penalties for choosing not to buy health insurance….
You lefties are all goddamned lying communists…
November 11th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
RWY, it is too easy to play your games of association.
See:
RWY is an extremist.
Pol Pot was an extremist.
Blah, blah, it is too easy to play your stream-of-consciousness game of association.
November 11th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
And the left opposes property rights as shown by this SCOTUS ruling, and as evident in the policies of Chavez, Zelaya, Castro and Ortega, as well as the USSR, and Nazi Germany, who specifically outlawed land speculation and parceled out property to the party brass by theft, as Chavez has done, and Mugabe has done, and as the City of New London did, and the LEFT WING of the SCOTUS backed them up.
You gdlc…
November 11th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Chavez, Zelaya, Castro and Ortega, as well as the USSR, and Nazi Germany…Mugabe
Pol Pot was an extremist.
RWY is an extremist.
It is too easy to play run-at-the-mouth-stream-of-consciousness.
Idealists such as yourself, RWY, only become bitter in old age.
And so, lighten up, you gdrwy.
November 11th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
10 minutes he’s lying about the penalties for choosing not to buy health insurance….
Spare your blood pressure, don’t knee-jerk to every right-wing talking point that passes your way.
You are like a 5 lb bass to a minnow when it comes to scarfing down memes.
November 11th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Who is it that wants to jail people for not buying health insurance?
Nasty piglosi the fascist bitch .
November 11th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Nasty piglosi the fascist bitch .
Still using the word fascism without having a clue. And still a pig at the trough for every shrill right wing talking point that passes your way.
The GOP elite feasts on morons such as you.
November 11th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
yes, of course, since you’re so chock full of facts today, you gdlc…
What’s the matter, you communist bastard? Cat got your tongue?
November 11th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
The GOP thrives on fear-mongering, and morons like ip727 are money in the bank because they will believe every word of the fear-mongering “death panel for grandma” and “jail time” talking points.
chock full of facts today,
No, just asking for the facts, and getting endless in reply an repetition of right wing talking points.
Apparently the right can make things up, and it is the burden of others to prove them wrong. You’d think it would be the other way around.
November 11th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
No, it’s you goddamned lying communists who are making things up, like cutting off feet and taking out tonsils for money..
We are telling the truth, Obama himself mentioned death panels, and jail time is in the bill.
So stop denying the truth, and be honest about what you’re for. Central planning and wealth redistribution, forced government service, rationing in all sectors, and the elimination of property rights.
You goddamned lying communist.
November 11th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
I’ll give you this, you gdlc. You are a persistent liar, that’s for sure.
You gdlc…..
November 11th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
And to the thieves of the City of New London and your corrupt Development Corp, reap it you assholes. Let your name be known to all the country for what it is, a reference to greed and illegal stealing of people’s homes and wealth.
And to the bastards on the SCOTUS who supported this pathetic decision: Go to hell.
November 11th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
L.
“Happens every time, ask a right winger for a definition of fascism, and they not only avoid the question with a non-answer, but repeat their use of the word.”
After reading the many responses, I’d say they were mostly on the mark. Why you engage in juvenile name calling is a mystery. Is that the best you have to offer?
November 11th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Thanks, RWY.
I was going to respond to L’s first comment but I knew you would lay down some truth!
November 11th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
why you engage in juvenile name calling is a mystery.
A mystery? You must have missed “ditchcarp” and “gdlc” and “persistent liar” and “nasty piglosi” and “communist bastard” and “Mugabe”.
You won’t mention those, though.
November 11th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
I was going to respond to L’s first comment but I knew you would lay down some truth!
Translation: you are still unable to give a definition of fascism.
November 11th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
After reading the many responses, I’d say they were mostly on the mark.
Of course, because they equated the Democrats with fascism.
YOU can’t give a definition of fascism though.
November 11th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
L, please consult any number of dictionaries if you still need a definition.
If you still can’t see the connection to Kelo, you probably won’t acknowledge the fascism in the government takeover of banking, car manufacturing, and health care either.
Some people will never see fascism unless there’s a funny little mustache to go along with it.
November 11th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
please consult any number of dictionaries if you still need a definition.
That wasn’t the point, and you know it.
The point was that YOU can’t provide a definition of fascism, yet you like to use the word.
there’s a funny little mustache to go along with it.
Funny, though, how your use of the word fascism conveniently brings up that image, even though you can’t define fascism.

L.,
You’re right. I had absolutely no idea what fascism was, and it was a pure coincidence that it applied perfectly to the Kelo case.
Better to be lucky than smart, huh?
November 11th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
it was a pure coincidence that it applied perfectly to the Kelo case.
But, how would you know, since you can’t define fascism?
Better to be lucky than smart, huh?
You’re guessing again.
November 11th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
OK, L (as in loser!), give us “your” definition of loser. We can go by mine, which is a central figure who tries to take over everything and forces everyone in line, similar to Saddam. Or, we can go with Webster, which is “fascism (făsh`ĭzəm), totalitarian philosophy of government that glorifies the state and nation and assigns to the state control over every aspect of national life”. You can take mine, or webster’s, as they mean the same thin
Now, lets apply that to Obama. He’s taken over the banks, the auto industries, the student loan industry, and now he’s attempting to take over the health care sector, the energy sector, newspapapers, and the internet via bogus “net neutrality” laws.
Now, I know that you are not going to read that last paragraph and associate that with Websters definition because, well, you’re too darn ignorant. But, this is the harsh truth, whether you like it or not.
November 11th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Fascism== the overbearing power grabbing methods the socialists use in attempting to etablish their workers paradise.
November 11th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Hey, instead of quibbling over definitions, could we get a defense of the leftists’ confiscation of private property for the benefit of condo developers?
That’s a sure vote winner in 2010. You guys ought to trumpet that.
November 11th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Yes, but will those who are running for office make this case as another reason for why democrats should be elected out of office?
We’ve gone down this lane together, and we all know that liberals and democrats have used this “eminent domain” rule to force people out of their homes. But, it seems the current crop of conservatives haven’t been loud enough to make the rest of America aware of this.
Those running should notify the public as to what lengths leftists in government will go to to enhance tax revenues. I hope those in New London, and I believe those few cities in Ohio already realize the mistakes they’ve made by electing those who sole purpose is to tax and spend.
November 11th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
right-wing yahoo is correct.
fascism is the merger of gov’t and corporate power where they each support each other to remain in power, often in detriment to the lower and middle classes.
the seeds were started w/Bush and are being very favorably nurtured by Obama.
November 11th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
straight from the horses mouth:
“Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power.” – Benito Mussolini.

Hey, instead of quibbling over definitions…
Impossible, because…you couldn’t provide a definition to quibble over.
November 12th, 2009 at 5:12 am
Bush Administration and Blackwater
Bush and Cheney worked fastidiously to achieve a totalitarian system. That is well documented, or as they say on this website, check the data.
See, isn’t random association fun, Varones? By cherry-picking and extrapolating you can make anything look like fascism, marxism, or your favorite evil-doer regime flavor of the day.
By the way, I think that Bush = Hitler is just as moronic as the Dachau analogy put forth this week by the teabaggers. Which is precisely my point: rise above it.
November 12th, 2009 at 7:20 am
L:
What’s with the constant insults? You claim no one knows the definition of facism and then insult those that post a response. I guess only you know the correct definition, right?
I asked you a simple question a few weeks ago. When have you ever supported a conservative position? Silence. That’s the response of a coward.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:09 am
The clown is just being a provacateur. He has had 12 definitions by now, everything from Webster’s to Mussolini’s.
Even the Nazi’s had their Quisling. Hoping L meets the same fate when this is all said and done.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:15 am
L – “Bush and Cheney worked fastidiously to achieve a totalitarian system. That is well documented.”
LOL….by who? AquaMan and the Justice of League?
Gotta love the left. This tripe passes for research. Kinda explains why he’s itching for politcal definitions. Apparently, he’s starting from scratch.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:26 am
What’s with the constant insults?
What’s with you only keeping score of my insults? I pointed out all of the insults and from you…silence.
You claim no one knows the definition of fascism…
I was looking for a definition from Varones, but he couldn’t give one.
I asked you a simple question a few weeks ago.
Don’t recall it.
When have you ever supported a conservative position?
I am more interested in what you folks believe in, and the use of language and symbolism in support of belief systems. But if you want to know the answer, the best way would be to volunteer an example you have supported a progressive position.
That’s the response of a coward.
What’s with the insult?
November 12th, 2009 at 8:29 am
He has had 12 definitions by now
But not from Varones.
Even the Nazi’s had their Quisling. Hoping L meets the same fate when this is all said and done.
Nice.
LOL….by who?
I was mocking the reasoning of you folks. Gotta love the right.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:41 am
L:
“Don’t recall it.”
You don’t recall a lot of things.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:51 am
You don’t recall a lot of things.
Can you name another thing that I don’t recall?
November 12th, 2009 at 9:25 am
Well, when you say something as inane as, “Bush and Cheney worked fastidiously to achieve a totalitarian system. That is well documented.”……. you get a reciprically silly response.
Your whole back and forth about a definition of fascism, well after it was established, has the intellectual merit of “how many angels can you fit on the head of a needle”. Do you really need a definition? Is the testimony of millions of Eastern Europeans, who probably couldn’t write a definition but know it is terrible, not enough not to convince you. No insults here……you just seem very young.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Spike, not to insult you, but you seem very young to not understand that VARONES referred to the “fascist wing of the Supreme Court”, which is such an absurd statement that I asked VARONES to give a definition in HIS own words. VARONES can’t give a definition.
Got it? Re-read the thread if you are still confused.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:32 am
Is the testimony of millions of Eastern Europeans, who probably couldn’t write a definition but know it is terrible, not enough not to convince you.
I am convinced that after their experiences they wouldn’t refer to the “fascist wing of the Supreme Court”.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:17 am
L:
“Spike, not to insult you?”
Then you insult him. You truly are the Court Jester.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Then you insult him. You truly are the Court Jester.
Please re-read spike’s post. He said, “No insults here…you just seem very young.” I responded, “Spike, not to insult you…”
Again, you point out my insults, but ignore those of the other posters.
And then you call me the Court Jester.
Could you have more of a double standard?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
L:
“And then you call me the Court Jester.”
Yes I did. You richly deserve the title.
November 12th, 2009 at 5:30 pm
L – “Spike, not to insult you, but you seem very young to not understand that VARONES referred to the “fascist wing of the Supreme Court”, which is such an absurd statement that I asked VARONES to give a definition in HIS own words. VARONES can’t give a definition. Got it? Re-read the thread if you are still confused.”
Apparently, you are confused. You didn’t just challenged Varone for a definition….your above posts challenged Attila – see your above post…..”Still using the word fascism without having a clue”.
Me – see your above post……..”happens every time, the right wing throws the word “fascism” around, but can’t deliver a definition without the Google” ……and just about everyone else offering a definition.
So Nitwit, by your own admission, it wasn’t just about to Varones.
Thanks for the assist, Ken. But I studied the Nazis and their origins from a guy named Raul Hilberg (you can Google it, L) so I have forgotten more about fascism than L will ever know. He can go on playing semantic games but the google definition works just fine, minus millions dead in its name.
November 12th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Thanks for the assist, Ken. But I studied the Nazis and their origins from a guy named Raul Hilberg (you can Google it, L) so I have forgotten more about fascism than L will ever know.
You must have forgotten a lot, because you Googled your definition of fascism. Would Raul Hilberg approve of you using his name in support of your political beliefs?
November 12th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
Fascism is theoretically different from communism.
In actual practice, and historically, they are so similar as to be mirror images of each other.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
L – “Would Raul Hilberg approve of you using his name in support of your political beliefs?”
He wrote my recommendation for Grad school. After experiencing fascism first hand, I’m convinced he would actually help out with the “beat down” you are being administered.
By the way, did you ever notice that you always go on to ask a different question whenever your last statement has been proven to be false?
November 12th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
L:
I might have been a bit hasty in giving you the Court Jester title. After reviewing your posts I think the term Mongoloid Idiot would better suit you
November 13th, 2009 at 2:12 am
After experiencing fascism first hand, I’m convinced he would actually help out with the “beat down” you are being administered.
Hilarious, you are arguing that he would support the term, “fascist wing of the supreme court.”
By the way, did you ever notice that you always go on to ask a different question whenever your last statement has been proven to be false?
You mean like how you haven’t explained why you had to Google your description of fascism, even though you had such a close association with Raul Hilberg?
November 13th, 2009 at 2:16 am
Mongoloid Idiot
Nice. Not only do you have a double standard regarding insults, but you think that Down Syndrome is an appropriate insult.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:22 am
L (aka MI):
“Nice”
Yes. You certainly earned the title.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:36 am
L – “Hilarious, you are arguing that he would support the term, “fascist wing of the supreme court.”
No, he would support exposing anyone as shrill as you.
L – “You mean like how you haven’t explained why you had to Google your description of fascism”.
No need to re-invent the wheel, especially for a simpleton like you. Much more important to recognize and defeat the steps leading up to Fascism such as the nationalization of industries, establishment of a cult of personality and the national takeover of media outlets.
November 13th, 2009 at 6:08 am
No need to re-invent the wheel…
Nor read my first post. Apparently we both suffer from not carefully reading the thread.
Much more important to recognize and defeat the steps leading up to Fascism such as the nationalization of industries, establishment of a cult of personality and the national takeover of media outlets.
Yep, it is safe to say that Raul Hilberg would be appalled at your extreme interpretation of current events. It is also safe to say that he would not use the term, “fascist wing of the Supreme Court”.
But you know that.
November 13th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Nice post. Looking forward to read your new blogs soon.
