No Middle-Class Tax Increase?

By PoliPundit ~ September 26th, 2009 @ 2:47 pm

Fail to pay the Obamacare tax, and go to jail for a year:

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it “Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold.”

The note was a follow-up to Ensign’s questioning at the markup.

Better watch it, Poli. Joke Leaf will be getting on you if you go after Obama.

Where are the trolls this weekend. I usually expect at least half the comments to be from trolls or acrosso. I guess Soros doesn’t pay double time for weekends.

  2. segrish

Barry said on the TV that is was not a tax.

  3. Albert Hodges

I dont understand why people would object to requiring everyone to carry health insurance.

ALL OF US pay for the cost of healthcare for the uninsured….have you been to an emergency room lately?

Most people who do not have health insurance dont have it because of a lack of income but rather because they are young and think they dont need it and are invincible.

I think that if the federal government would simply require eveyone to carry health insurance and submit proof of it when people file their income taxes, and then deduct the fine from the refund check from those who get refunds, you would see many of these young people get insurance.

If the tax was 2,000 per person then it would negate the freebie that many people get from the earned income tax credit.

Just my opinion and I do think that healthcare is a human right and should be provided to everyone…just as the Catholic Church CLEARLY teaches.

Just my opinion and I do think that healthcare is a human right and should be provided to everyone…just as the Catholic Church CLEARLY teaches.

    Leftist hogwash

If you feel so strongly about it then maybe you and the Catholic Church should pay for it.

  5. Albert Hodges

I am happy to pay taxes to provide healthcare for everyone….absolutely the right thing to do.

  6. rightwingyahoo

What a jackass. Move to Europe, then, prick.

I am happy to pay taxes to provide healthcare for everyone….absolutely the right thing to do.

You can’t afford to pay that much tax. You’re all for everybody else paying through the nose. Finance your own pet projects with your own money. Get out of my pocket. That’s the right thing to do.

  8. rightwingyahoo

Yeah, it figures you’re a Huckabee supporter, pro life communist that’s you.

You have the right to buy health care, if you want it, like anything else you want.

You have the right to choose not to buy it, and the cost of your health care can be paid out of pocket, or by having your wages garnished or assets attached.

Legal residents who have no insurance and run up health care bills pay their bills. They get collected on, if they don’t.

It’s the illegals and welfare cases that clog up the emergency rooms, mostly. They often get better care than your average Euro patient.

You’re freaking ignorant. And by the way, when millions of jobless people find out they are going to jail if they don’t pay their fines, for not buying their own insurance, neither of which they can afford without wages, you will see some shit fly.

This is all just a circus act to move the country to single payer. That gives the government power over you, your family, your lives and deaths.

Is that what the catholic church teaches, moron?

And why do you mindlessly listen to whatever the catholic church teaches you? You think the Pope is God or something?

    Idiot.

You can’t, and the country can’t afford to pay for everyone’s health care, if everyone was taxed at 100%, just like we can’t afford everyone’s gas, mortgage, or power bill.

These are things people have to take care of themselves. We are a nation of grownups, you know?

  9. D QUIXOTE

I am happy to pay taxes to provide healthcare for everyone….absolutely the right thing to do.~~~hodge

Then by all means do it, with your money not mine, you collectivist little prick. Ever hear of personal responsibility or freedom opf choice,?, didn’t think so.

  10. rightwingyahoo

I’ve about had it with the Catholic Church and their communist theology.

They are militantly open border, and don’t care about the 25 Americans killed every day by illegals.

They are a Dem voting block, supporting the thug party wiping out freedom in the country.

Now they are puking up healthcare socialism.

Time to realize the Catholic Church is on the other side. You know, the one opposite the founders and the constitution.

  11. rightwingyahoo

I’ll tell you what Hodges, you and your stupid church can foot the bill for healthcare for all those illegals and everyone that doesnt feel like paying their healthcare bill.

Got your wallet out? Or are your guys a bit light after paying off all the molestation victims?

  12. Albert Hodges

Actually, my taxes go to provide assistance to:

    1) the elderly;
    2) the disabled;
    3) the education of young people; and
    4) the education of all young adults who attend college with Pell grants or subsidized public colleges.

I am not elderly, disabled, youung or in school or the parent of a child.

If my tax dollars can be spent on the above, all of which are worthwhile programs, then I can certainly approve my tax dollars going to help all citizens receive healthcare.

No need to attack the Holy Church, by the way.

  13. D QUIXOTE

then I can certainly approve my tax dollars going to help all citizens receive healthcare.
No need to attack the Holy Church, by the way.
    hodge

ALL citizens are receiving health care now numbnuts, you don’t see them dying in the streets do you?? I also approve of YOUR tax dollars going wherever the hell you want, just leave mine alone comrade.

The “holy church” is attacking us with their never ending socialist babble, so they are fair game. Let them preach the gospel of mathew, mark, luke and john, but leave the gospel of marx, lenin, castro, chavez and chairman mao out of it.

  14. Ken

    Albert Hodges:

“just as the Catholic Church CLEARLY teaches.”

Would you inform me (and the others on the board) where Catholic dogma decrees that government provided healthcare is a right?

  15. D QUIXOTE

Some people confuse Christian charity with government mandated collectivism. The liberation theologists are perverting Christianity for their own socialist ends..Useful idiots like hodges swallow that crap hook line and sinker.

  16. D QUIXOTE

One man’s rights may be a kick in the balls to another, especially if the other is forced to pay for such “right”

  17. Albert Hodges

    Ken:

It is specifically indicated as a right of all persons in the documents of Vatican II.

There is no Catholic dogma that says that there is a universal right to healthcare…it is an application of Catholic teaching as taught by the Pope and Bishops at Vatican II.

Since it is not a part of the extraordinary magisterium nor a part of the ordinary magisteriuem, some Catholics believe they can dissent from the teaching….either way, it is OFFICAL Catholic teaching.

  18. rightwingyahoo

yes, DQ. I will not tolerate communism from politicians and I will not tolerate it from morons in robes and stupid hats, either.

  19. rightwingyahoo

Well, I’ll give you credit. You’re an open and honest socialist. At least you don’t try to deny it like all your communist brothers.

  20. rightwingyahoo

Let them preach the gospel of mathew, mark, luke and john, but leave the gospel of marx, lenin, castro, chavez and chairman mao out of it.

That’s right. Hey Hodges, you moron, you better watch out. With your fellow leftists in charge, you’ll notice less air in the room.

You need reminding of what Lenin thought of the church?

    Useful idiot.

  21. D QUIXOTE

    HOORAH

  22. Albert Hodges

    Rightwingyahoo,

All of your accusations of my being a communist or devotee of Lenin/Marx does not make it true.

The Catholic Church is decidedly liberal on economic justice issues and conservative on social issues, if I use the terms liberal/conservative in the manner most people on this blog do.

Sean Hannity, Chris Matthews, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are not Doctors of the Church….listen to the Pope and the Bishops and 2,000 of authentic Catholic teaching rather than form your judgments based on the rantings of so-called pundits from either the left or the right.

  23. D QUIXOTE

Pope and the Bishops and 2,000 of authentic Catholic teaching rather than form your judgments based Etc, Etc< hodge

If they are “teaching” the forced redistrubition of wealth, they are not teaching Christianity, but some form of liberation theology/marxism, but not Christianity.

  24. D QUIXOTE

If your “Doctors of the Church” are preaching the same crap as marx/lenin/etc. they are frauds, not theologians. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, talks like a duck, one must assume it is a fascist in robes.

  25. (((BCL)))

Only deranged leftists use terms like “economic justice”.

  26. Albert Hodges

    Deranged leftists or committed Christians.

  27. (((BCL)))

    Deranged leftists or committed Christians.

Sorry, dude. That has nothing to do with Christianity.

It’s pure, unadulterated leftist political ideology.

  28. Gerry Owen

Church can spend money on whatever they want- that is charity.

Government spending money to “help” other citizens do what they should be doing themselves- no matter how worthwhile YOU may consider the cause, is IMMORAL. I should decide what charitiable contributions I should make. Government using the power of the gun to take from me and give to someone else is evil incarnate.

The Church should wake up and realize they are being supplanted. Government is now God.

  29. tonynoboloney

Rightwing pegged it right in an earlier post. Just wait till millions of unemployed, many more millions of under employed. and displaced workers, not to mention the healthy young people with crappy jobs jam up the court system for not paying the “health tax”. I just hope it happens soon. I’m already ejoying watching Barack Insane Obama go down in flames with 2/3 of the Dem Congress.

As to the Catholic part of this argument, the C. church has been pulling out of American cities, away from poor people for decades. One only has to drive through any metropollitan area in the country to see the closed schools and churches by the thousands. THe C. church is only too happy to let the US government pick up the tab for the education, health, and welfare of all the black, Hispanic, and illegal christians who abound in the inner cities. The largest growth of new Catholics is in Mexico. Central and South America all third world counties.

  30. Albert Hodges

This blog has been taken over by Know-Nothing, anti-Catholic, Christian hating bigots who allow FOX News to form their conscience rather than Holy Scripture and the Holy Church.

  31. (((BCL)))

    That’s pitiful Hodges.

You are definitely a leftist loon who worships government, not God.

  32. D QUIXOTE

Deranged leftists or committed Christians. hodges

Committed Christians believe in CHRISTIAN voluntary charity, deranged leftists (like yourelf) believe in big brother mandated redistribution of wealth, a vast gulf seperates the two. You worship the state, not God.

  33. Pluto

Get out of my pocket. That’s the right thing to do.

To avoid hypocrisy you might consider driving only on those streets, roads and highways that were paid for solely out of your own pocket.

That is, circles and circles, round and round, on the 20 feet or so that you paid for.

  34. Pluto

Committed Christians believe in CHRISTIAN voluntary charity, deranged leftists (like yourelf) believe in big brother mandated redistribution of wealth, a vast gulf seperates the two. You worship the state, not God.

That was dumb. Are you a spokesman for Christians?

  35. Ken

    Pluto:

    “That was dumb.”

Another intellectual gem. Is the Boy King going after the Christian vote now?

  36. McRock

Insurance doesn’t work well unless as many people pay into the pool as possible. Just like Auto Insurance, which is also mandatory…do you want to repeal that as well, for consistency of argument?

Those who cannot afford to buy insurance will get subsidies. The problem with the plan is not that it is a “tax” (although you don’t care to hear this because you think that all you need to do to kill legislation is crow about “taxes”) it is a boondoggle for Insurance companies. That’s where the subsidies from federal revenues (including our tax money) will end up.

You’re all too afraid it seems to target your anger toward those who really deserve it…the corporations top heavy with wealthy executives who find way after way of sucking more money out of America into their own pockets. One of the biggest thieveries in history is ongoing (Bush’s bailout) to the tune of over a trillion dollars, and all you can complain about are groups like ACORN who take a few million a year and try to use it to help poor people. This is both immoral and ignorant all at once.

  37. Pluto

That was dumb. Answering questions with questions?

  38. Ken

    MCRock:

“Insurance doesn’t work well unless as many people pay into the pool as possible.”

Incorrect. Insurance doesn’t work well if premiums aren’t tied to risk. Back to sleep, tiger.

  39. McRock

“Incorrect. Insurance doesn’t work well if premiums aren’t tied to risk.”

This is a non-sequitur bearing no relevance to my point.

Ready to renounce your auto insurance yet, Ken?

  40. Durman

“all you can complain about are groups like ACORN who take a few million a year and try to use it to help poor people. This is both immoral and ignorant all at once.”

Ah, yes, ACORN: helping poor people develop into fine young prostitutes and pimps – a wholesome leftist organization with a vision for America that is by no means ignorant or immoral, so saith Saint McCrock.

  41. Pluto

Ah, yes, ACORN: helping poor people develop into fine young prostitutes and pimps

If you are referring to the video, then you have been duped, it was acting both on the part of the filmmakers and the ACORN employees. Otherwise you would have to believe that ACORN employee Tresa Kaelke actually murdered her former husband.

  42. Durman

    a liberal/leftist FEDERALLY FUNDED moral organization, I might add…

    Your tax dollars at work!

  43. Durman

Of course, Pluto: ACORN’s federal funding was revoked over an obvious lie.

That was the consensus of the congressional libs that voted to defund them.

Nothing to see here, move along….

  44. Pluto

Of course, Pluto: ACORN’s federal funding was revoked over an obvious lie.

That was the consensus of the congressional libs that voted to defund them.

Nothing to see here, move along….

Durman’s logic: A discredited video comes out, soon thereafter Republican-initiated motions to symbolically cut funding are passed,
    hence the video is true.

    Nice logic there, Durman.

  45. D QUIXOTE

A discredited video comes out“ pluto

Descredited==facts which the left refuses to see.

  46. Pluto

Descredited==facts which the left refuses to see.

Watch out, Durman the non-partisan grammar cop is going to correct your spelling.

  47. Durman

Read again, Pluto: dems also voted to defund ACORN. Not bad for a “discredited” lie of a video. It couldn’t have been defunded without democratic approval, you outnumber us in congress, remember? (Though not for much longer…)

The congressional lib-dims couldn’t defend the indefensible actions of ACORN, but you idiots will.

May all of you idiot leftists keep defending the morally indefensible/reprehensible, and please do so LOUDLY. And do try to include ACORN back in the Federal dole.

Keep it up- it’s good for our side.

Honestly I’m surprised that no one recognized the opportunity to cut out some of the cancer that a concentrated collection of ignorant rightwing domestic terrorists at the rally in DC today provided….

    MrCock advocating mass murder.

  49. Durman

    Who said I’m non-partisan?

All of you idiot cancerous libs need to be defeated…and I’ll help hasten your demise by correcting your grammar when necessary. :)

  50. Pluto

    Who said I’m non-partisan?

It was a joke, of course you aren’t going to correct the grammar of your fellow nutters.

dems also voted to defund ACORN.

Hence the video was true? Um, no, but nice logic there again. To use your logic: the right wing nutters are shrill about a discredited video, congress symbolically cuts funding to ACORN in response to the shrillness, therefore right wing nutters are shrill.

  51. the aura of truthiness

Hey Hodges, keep the liberation theology out of the discussion, it is not conservative, and it is not Christian. It is pure communism, and fyi, JP II recognized it as such, and smashed down on such foolishness. You and Obambi and Reverend God Damn America might think it’s a good idea, but we conservatives certainly do not, nor did JP II.

Although I still find it ironic to see rightwingRINO… aka Comrade Ethanolov… calling somebody else a communist.

And for the lefty troll above, I have no problem if a state mandates auto insurance, and I have no problem if they don’t. I’ll certainly be carrying it, mandate or no, along with others so inclined. The Federal government has no business mandating auto, health or basically any type of insurance. This is a tax, pure and simple, and I can’t wait ’til the kids figure it out and turn on Obambi. That should be good.

  52. Durman

    Pluto,

If your premise “the ACORN expose video was/is discredited and is a rightwing lie, etc.” was widely regarded as accurate, then the congressional lib-dims would have found it possible to not defund ACORN, and congressional lib-dims would instead be publicly defending them, as you do.

    That has not happened.

Therefore, one can conclude that there was enough offensive truth in the ACORN expose video to warrant defunding. This has been the conclusion of reasonable people, including (surprisingly) a number of congressional lib dims – your friends- without whose help defunding would not have been possible.

  53. (((BCL)))

    Who discredited the videos?

  54. D QUIXOTE

can’t wait ’til the kids figure it out and turn on Obambi. That should be good. AURA

The problem is, that most of these “kids” probably won’t be able to afford insurance, so would be eligible for the subsidy, which they will gladly accept.
The younger generation is always open to “free” goodies.

  55. D QUIXOTE

    Who discredited the videos?~~~BCL

A discreditation only in their own minds.

  56. (((BCL)))

He’s probably referring the the San Bernardino woman who claimed to have killed her husband. Her ex husbands are alive and cops say they don’t see it’s a credible story. So I guess she’s just a lying crook, instead of a lying murderous crook. She did say she would kill the guy across the street and who knows what else she’s done.

So I guess in leftyland this discredits all of the other things she said on camera.

  57. Durman

Even Clarence Page, while doing his best to defend ACORN, realizes that they have dealt themselves a massive self-inflicted wound, and will not defend the criminality involved:

“That does not excuse the stupid, immoral and possibly criminal assistance that several ACORN staffers were caught on video offering to the young pimp-and-ho duo. But it does offer a valuable lesson: When people are out to get you, try not to hand them more ammunition.” – Clarence Page

He like you, gnashes his teeth over the video that has led to defunding:

“Their hidden-camera videos have provided a bonanza of what President Barack Obama characterizes as “catnip” for commentators and late-night comedians. They’ve also spurred Washington’s usually sluggish funding gears to spin into warp drive. The Democratic Congress and Washington’s bureaucracy have cut off funds to ACORN.”

Unlike you, Pluto, Page does not deny the offensive truth contained in the video.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/09/27/how_acorn_helped_its_enemies_98480.html

  58. Pluto

He’s probably referring the the San Bernardino woman who claimed to have killed her husband. Her ex husbands are alive and cops say they don’t see it’s a credible story.

Correct: the ACORN workers knew that the prostitute and pimp were not real, they did not know that there was a hidden camera, and so they were joking with the prostitute and pimp. The filmmakers passed the joking off as real, the right wing nutters got their panties in another shrill knot, some legislation was passed, and Durman uses it as proof that the video was credible, because it is important to him that it be credible.

  59. rightwingyahoo

The leftist zombies are very good at stating non-existent facts, and dressing up as pots and calling kettles black.

  60. rightwingyahoo

Correct: the ACORN workers knew that the prostitute and pimp were not real, they did not know that there was a hidden camera, and so they were joking with the prostitute and pimp

    You’re completely insane. lol.

  61. Pluto

    Even Clarence Page…

That was not a convincing argument, you are dancing about like Tom Delay. I could go on the internets and find someone stating that the video was real. Get over it man, the woman joked that she killed her husband. The video is a joke.

  62. Pluto

Should be: “…that the video was not real.”

  63. rightwingyahoo

By the way Pluto: Defense and roads are clear mandates of the federal and state constitutions, respectively, while health insurance is not.

And if you want to build a private road and charge a toll, you are free to do so. What you communists are doing is mandating a toll be charged whether or not someone uses the road.

It’s all an argument about nothing. This is not your goal, this is just another way to piss people off and try to buffalo them into single payer/public option.

    You gdlc….

  64. Durman

“the ACORN workers knew that the prostitute and pimp were not real, they did not know that there was a hidden camera, and so they were joking with the prostitute and pimp.”

    lol!

Pluto, You honestly believe what you just wrote? I believe you HOPE that is what they thought; I’ll give you credit for trying hard not to see the truth. Clarence Page, your fellow lib – does not even believe the ACORN workers thought the duo was fake. He is well-nigh convinced of the ACORN criminality involved and will not defend it. Unlike you.

  65. Pluto

Defense and roads are clear mandates of the federal and state constitutions

Yes, but the infrastructure of local, state and federal roads and highways is far in excess of that required for defense. And so please don’t drive on them, hypocrite.

  66. Durman

That was not a convincing argument, you are dancing about like Tom Delay.

    Hey, let’s not get nasty….

  67. Pluto

Well, Durman, do you believe that she shot and killed her husband? It is essential to your argument. Note that the police don’t believe that she shot and killed her husband.

  68. rightwingyahoo

Yes, but the infrastructure of local, state and federal roads and highways is far in excess of that required for defense.

The two have nothing to do with each other except for Interstate highways. And state roads have nothing to do with defense.

So your point is bullcrap, and you can shut your piehole anytime, you gdlc….

  69. rightwingyahoo

Note that the police don’t believe that she shot and killed her husband.

Because he is still alive. Otherwise, she’d have been questioned by now. The fact that the ACORN people are flakes and mutants does in no way excuse their sanction and consent to criminal behavior.

Your president is a Mafia don. And the people are waking up to it, you gdlc…

  70. rightwingyahoo

That’s hilarious. A woman spins a yarn about killing her husband and that is supposed to wipe out all the rest of the obvious criminal behavior contained on the tape.

LOL. Whatever, commies. Keep lying to yourselves…

  71. Durman

“Well, Durman, do you believe that she shot and killed her husband? It is essential to your argument.”

No, it is not essential – it does function as a useful distraction, however. This assertion is not essential to the defunding argument, because the “murder” allegation was not the reason for ACORN’s defunding. Read the Clarence Page link – he by no means can be considered a “conservative” – quite the opposite. It was mentioned nowhere in his article, and rightly so, because the case against ACORN does not rise or fall on that assertion.

Fact: we know that ACORN workers involved were attempting to aid and abet a would-be prostitution ring, or so they were led to believe. The ACORN workers willingly & knowingly did so, which makes their actions all the more reprehensible – and consequently led to their firings. It was this action that also did them in via Federal funding, and is indefensible – at least in most quarters.

  72. Durman

    Pluto,

I have a feeling we’re going to agree to disagree here (no surprise there, I’m sure…)

It’s time to take a break, see some football and enjoy the day.

    Take care.

  73. (((BCL)))

Correct: the ACORN workers knew that the prostitute and pimp were not real, they did not know that there was a hidden camera, and so they were joking with the prostitute and pimp.

    ROFLMAO

Police did question her about the “murder”. None of the ACORNers knew the pimp and prostitute were not real. They were “punked”.

There’s more to come. Philadelphia is next.

  74. Pluto

Police did question her about the “murder”.

Of course, because she was on videotape messing with the heads of a couple of kooks who entered the ACORN office. Hardly a reason for GOP congressmen to get their panties in a shrill knot. But there they are.

  75. (((BCL)))

The only heads being messed with is yours, and it’s up your ass. LOSERS

  76. Pluto

Durman, please correct (((BCL)))’s grammar in his last post.

  77. the aura of truthiness

The Left is fleeing from ACORN… absolutely FLEEING.

However those ACORN idiots managed to do it, they are now tagged as enablers of child prostitution. It’s a done deal. Finis.

Woe be to any politician who gets asssociated with those kooks. You can see that all but the kookiest lefties now know it, too.

  78. McRock

“The Left is fleeing from ACORN… absolutely FLEEING.”

Really? I gave them $50 last week. They do a lot of good, and I have a weak spot for the poor folk who have the bad luck to happen to be the target of the latest Wingnut/Corporate media Hate Swarm.

  79. the aura of truthiness

Well yeah, the kooks will be there for ACORN, regardless. Child prostitution is not a problem for kooks. They like that.

The mainstream? Not so much, and that’s why non-kook politicians are fleeing.
