Democrat Civil War

By PoliPundit ~ September 24th, 2009 @ 10:38 pm

House Democrats met on Obamacare today, and were far from united:

The fight leaves Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) with a difficult choice.

If she chooses a public option, she could lose the votes of many Blue Dogs and other centrist lawmakers. If she scraps the public option, she could lose the votes of liberals. Even with the sizable majority of Democrats, either decision might cost enough votes to kill the bill, as Republicans appear united against it.

“The vast majority of the caucus wants a public option, but we have to get the votes of a majority of the Congress,” said Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) after leaving a closed-door caucus meeting.

He said he was surprised by how many freshmen and New Democrats oppose the public option, in addition to Blue Dogs, who have been more vocal in their opposition. Still, he expects Pelosi to include a public option.

“My guess is that leadership will prevail,” Moran said.

Blue Dogs say that if Pelosi follows through on including a public plan, it won’t have enough votes on the floor. Rep. Allen Boyd (D-Fla.), a prominent Blue Dog, said there probably isn’t enough support for any one approach within the Democratic Caucus to get the needed 218 votes. He said Pelosi should take a sharp turn to the center and see if she can pull together centrist Democrats and centrist Republicans.

    Poli:

It appears the rush for the exits has turned into a stampede for the Dems.

Smoke and mirrors. When the dust settles these socialist ditchcarp will have succeeded in cramming socialized medicine down our throats. The “blue dogs” are lap dogs and will cave to the bitch

Poor Nan-Nan, the kooky Left is gonna force her hand. She’s gotta grovel, put her sacred socialized medicine to a floor vote, and watch the mainstream send it crashing down in flames… publicly… right out in front of her majestic presence… in HER House.

How humiliating. Defeated. For all to see.

This will of course embolden the opposition. On the political battlefield, there is no mercy for the wounded. They get bayoneted.

I’m starting to think we got a good shot at getting something productive out of all this. But only if the mainstream puts their foot on the Left’s neck and steps down HARD. Choke them ’til their eyeballs pop out. The Left HAS to produce a “health care” bill. They HAVE to. That’s the leverage to be used to beat them into submission to the mainstream’s will.

Regarding the latest disclosure by Iran on its nuclear facility:

h/t Peter Brookes & “The Corner”

    1. An additional enrichment facility allows Iran to make more enriched uranium faster.

    2. If this facility is up and running, this means that previous estimates on when Iran could achieve a nuclear weapons breakout are now inaccurate.

    3. Basically: A nuclear Iran is closer than we thought it was yesterday.

    4. This is another violation of Iran’s obligation under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, which requires all members to declare all nuclear facilities and allow inspection. (Of course, Iran violated the NPT for some 20 years by not disclosing its nuclear program until it was exposed in 2003.)

    5. It’s also very troubling that a supposed-civilian facility is located on a military base. It will be hard for Iran to explain this one, but they will try.

    6. The Iran problem is getting worse — not better.

    7. It’s high-time the Obama administration do something concrete about it beyond pinning their hopes on upcoming talks, which will likely result in no changes to the Iranian nuclear program.

Me: ObombaNero fiddles while the world burns…

  6. the aura of truthiness

Poor, clumsy Obambi, sitting up there at that microphone with empty words… and meanwhile the mullahs know they’re gonna roll him like yesterday’s baking. That’s the problem with Obambi’s signs of weakness shown domestically: commie kooks in Obambi’s administation being spotlighted… the WH whimpering, tucking tail and firing them without a fight… dozens of health care speeches yammering words that nobody’s listening to…

The mullahs know his words mean nothing, same as always, and that he’ll crack. They KNOW it.

And Brown, after handing over that Libyan terrorist, he’s trying to talk tough. What a joke he is… and the mullahs know that as well.

The French guy is the one to watch. SURPRISE! He’s the only one with any credibility and backbone, and by his body language he seemed to know it. Here he is, basically scoffing at Obambi’s lapdog appeasements, which the WaPo helpfully terms as “diplomatic maneuvering”:

***** Although Obama referred to the nuclear ambitions of both Iran and North Korea during the Security Council session, diplomatic maneuvering kept any mention of the two countries out of a resolution that the council unanimously approved. The omission prompted passionate criticism from Sarkozy.

“How, before the eyes of the world, could we justify meeting without tackling them?” Sarkozy said. “We live in the real world, not a virtual world. And the real world expects us to take decisions.”

On Friday, he said Iran “is taking the international community on a dangerous path . . . Everything, everything, must be put on the table now. We cannot let the Iranian leaders gain time while the motors are running.”

I guess Obambi wants to make sure that NOTHING comes between him and his sacred bilateral negotiations with the mullahs, without preconditions. Not even a mushroom cloud can come between Obambi and the mullahs, evidently. That’s comforting.

Dear Aura; I hope you’re right about the botox bitch, but I’m afraid the lap dog demonrats will cave into her.
