A Libertarian Wave?

By PoliPundit ~ August 21st, 2009 @ 9:59 am

Given the growing public disgust with government spending, there is a significant chance that we will see a wave of libertarian Republicans getting elected next year: Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, Rand Paul in Kentucky, Peter Schiff in Connecticut… They’re all running as outsider-mavericks, and that’s a great label to have in a time when incumbents are distrusted.

Schiff has to hope Dodd wins the Demo slot, because if he drops out, Schiff will lose to the fresh faced leftist.

Toomey can take out Specter. Look for Toomey to find a clever way to attach Bush’s 2004 support for Specter to Obama’s 2010 support for Specter. I don’t expect Specter to drop out, but Obama may try to force him to, as well he should. I think he’ll get dumped if he runs.

If the current mood holds, I think we could see many surprises in 2010, even beyond the above. The House Demos are in for a rude surprise, for sure.

I think Sesatak will beat Specter in the primary. Why would Democrat voters select Specter when he is even more vulnerable than Sestak? I’d prefer Specter win the primary becasue he wiill not win,no way will he get reelected.
Haven’t studied Paul enough. Nor Schiff. I do know that Rob Simmons is a good guy on certain issues, but his overall votes were very liberal, having voted for partial birth abortion and against DOMA.

I have a feeling that Schiff loses the R primary, and even if he did win he still probably loses to Dodd since incumbents, with 10′s of millions to spend in Dodd’s case since he’s the finance chair, rarely lose.

However, since Bunning is gone, there is a large opening in Kentucky so whoever wins the GOP primary will end up as senator in my opinion.

So Kentucky is not only red, but there will probably be a “wind” for the GOP in 2010 anyway.

Note that Paul’s opponent Trey Grayson runs the GOP primary process for his own election, and he will have the GOP machine apparatus and apparaticks helping him so who knows.

  4. Let's Not Mention That

Libertarianism works great for Somalia, the good people of Kentucky and Pennsylvania are in for quite a treat.
