“In a nutshell, theoretical models cannot explain what we observe in the geological record,” said oceanographer Gerald Dickens, a co-author of the study and professor of Earth science at Rice University. “There appears to be something fundamentally wrong with the way temperature and carbon are linked in climate models.”

I honestly fell for the coming for the glaciers when I was a youngster.

It doesn’t Gore me, I mean bore me.
I have asked NWF, WWF, Nature Conservancy and Local Meteorologist how they measure the temperature of the Earth and that it was rising. The organizations all say we know it because we say so or an individual does. Then I asked the meteorologist to tell me and they said they would investigate. They got back to me and had to admit no one could tell them more than we know it. How-don’t ask specifics evidently. Just look at that poor polar bear on the melting iceberg and send money to save him.
It must be a deep dark secret.

What you fell for was Newsweek trying to sell copy.
So get over it, and start reading.
That is what I would tell a home-school student to do.
The peer-reviewed scientific literature of the 1970’s did not reflect the Newsweek
Read both sides of the issue.

When a scientist is skeptical of global warming, then the right wing lists their academic credentials as proof that they have validity.
When a scientist speaks out, and the right doesn’t like what they hear, then the scientist is labeled as an academic from a university and by implication liberal and not to be trusted.

Global Warming is regarded by the sheeple as true; by those who can think for themselves as false; and by the power hungry and the money grubbers as … … useful .. … very useful in filching power and money to themselves.

Here something to ponder: Did anyone ever acquire fame or fortune by shouting from a rooftop “everything is fine ! Do not worry !” ?
No. This is why anyone with a megaphone (academic, politician, musician, hollywood actor) can be counted on to find a “crisis” and start to shout. It is the only path to fame and riches (well, not the pnly, but the easiest).
I am old enough to remember (i) the population “bomb” (that fizzled) (ii) nuclear end of world (oops didn’t happen) (iii) the terrors of DDT (the ban of which killed about 50,000k,000 children ans is now being rescinded) (iv) the coming ice age (1970’s), (v) the coming hot-age (now in reverse, with annual cooling at ~ 0.1/yr), oh, and I forgot the Y2K disaster (complete fizzle).
Sooner or later wise men and women learn to ignore hysterical public voices , be calm, review the data and draw our own conclusions.
