Blessings To The Palin Family

By Oak Leaf ~ July 3rd, 2009 @ 1:15 pm

I think Geraghty at NRO has it right;

“I can only imagine a life running a state while caring for a son with Down syndrome and a son in Iraq and a daughter who is a new mother in the sharp glare of the public spotlight and a grandson and another daughter suddenly appearing in David Letterman’s routine. This may not be the right time for another go-round in a multi-year process in which vast swaths of the political world will aim to see her torn down to nothing. She’s 45 years old; it’s not like the window is closing.”

Family must always trump all, she made the right decision for the most important people in her life.

All this speculation now. Is she resigning out of too much pressure (wouldn’t be a good sign if she is really intent on the White House in 2012), is she pregnant, is she resigning because she wants to be in Iowa and New Hampshire instead of Alaska or something else. hmm

  2. Anti Federalist

What disappoints me is that it seems that she has been driven away from public office due to the numerous baseless ethics complaints and the incessant character assassination that she and her family has endured since being named McCain’s VP nominee. Seeing the hate fest that she has had to endure from the left will only discourage good conservatives from running for public office lest they wish to go through the same.

[Do not forget that the "Friends of McCain" also ripped on her as well. I can accept the left doing what they did, but the McCain allies, no. OL]

    Anti Federalist ,

and I’m sure that “Barack Osama Hussein” doesn’t get any of that either!

Not our problem if she’s not thick skinned enough for the public eye. It was her intend to be a ruler of the people, and naturally the people who don’t like her and don’t vote for her are going to dislike that fact that she’s ruling them, but we don’t even know the reasons why she resigned yet so I wouldn’t get too worked up about that yet.

Hopefully she’s gone though so we don’t have to worry about her in the republican primary. I’d hate to see her as president personally.

  4. Anti Federalist

    invalid10,

    1. When did she say that she wanted to be ruler of the people?

    2. I never said anything about her not being able to withstand people disliking her. I said people hate her.

    3. Although we can expect for the fringe lunatics on both sides to engage in hate mongering, the hatred and character assassination that she has had to endure comes from the “mainstream” left.

    4. I think that she has a thick enough skin to endure many attacks on herself, however, the way her family was targeted may have disheartened to her.

  5. Anti Federalist

[Do not forget that the "Friends of McCain" also ripped on her as well. I can accept the left doing what they did, but the McCain allies, no. OL]

Kind of reminds me of the old saying “with friends like these, who needs enemies”. She has been clobbered by both the left and the Republican establishment.

  6. invalid10

    Anti Federalist ,

    1) She didn’t but she ran and won the governor spot and she was running on a presidential ticket and had presidential ambitions herself to be the ruler. We need to get rid of the executive branch all together in my opinion by the way, but if she’s going to run to forcibly make decisions for all 300 americans with the backing of the U.S. military, CIA, FBI etc then she should have thick enough skin to handle a blogger complaining about her. It’s her IRS that will be raiding houses and her CIA that would be up to no good so I don’t see how she has the right to complain about people not liking her.

    2) Hate? That’s fine. Nothing wrong with hating a politician.

    3) Really only form the left? Didn’t a S.C. republican representative say that Michelle Obama resembled an escaped gorilla from the Columbia zoo just last week? Go over on freerepublic and you can get your fill of more of it.

    4) see #3

  7. Earl

I think she wants to step away, for awhile. People do forget sh ehas a family, and the last 10 months or so have been very tough for her I’m sure.

  8. Anti Federalist

    invalid10,

I said she endured hatred from the mainstream left. If the S.C. republican representative is so mainstream, why can’t you name his name? A derisive remark from a second rate, obscure SC state rep doesn’t count as mainstream.

Hearing Palin’s announcement, over just reading about it, left me with the impression that this resignation was strategically planned as a win-win for both for her and the man she tapped to take her place, Parnell.

She can step out of the “hot” public eye and devote herself to private matters for a while, giving herself the chance to seriously contemplate a 2012 run.

Parnell can augment a reputation of being an incumbent governor. If he is liked, does a good job, he will win in 2010.

    Win-win!

I think her visit with the solidiers, Sanford imploding, The situations in Iran & Honduras and the way Obama has fumbled them….made Sarah look at America and the way the Republicans are fumbling around has put her in a position that demands immediate action….not after the 2010 elections – it could be too late by then. Sarah is the only one that can derail the Obama train.

  11. invalid10

    Anti Federalist,

Who is it you consider the mainstream left that you’re complaining about? Name an outlandish statement from a mainstream Democrat about Palin.

  12. invalid10

Well so is it a good thing she didn’t become Vive-President then because if she had, she would have had to have quite in the first three months due to family pressures? (assuming that’s why she quit referencing previous posters.)

    invalid10–mainstram Democrat Joe Biden

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Joe Biden, Barack Obama’s pro-abortion running mate, is coming under fire for comments he made today attacking vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. After attacking her on abortion, Biden then slammed Palin on the birth of her son, who has Down syndrome.

During her acceptance speech last week, Palin promised the parents of disabled children that she would be their advocate in the White House.

Biden questioned that commitment by attacking Palin’s stance on the issue of embryonic stem cell research, which has never helped a single patient.

“I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there’s joy to it as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect,’ Biden said.

“Well guess what folks? If you care about it, why don’t you support stem cell research?” Biden asked, questioning Palin’s commitment.

The McCain campaign released a statement to LifeNews.com on Tuesday responding to Biden’s accusation and saying Biden’s comments on stem cell research were “offensive.”

“Barack Obama’s running mate sunk to a new low today launching an offensive debate over who cares more about special needs children,” McCain spokesman Ben Porritt said. “Playing politics with this issue is disturbing and indicative of a desperate campaign.”

  15. invalid10

    MI Conservative,

I can see how you might be offended by that, but that still strikes me as run of the mill politics. He wasn’t calling Michelle Obama a gorilla.

  16. invalid10

Also it wasn’t a direct attack on Palin’s family as was previously claimed but a vague reference.

  17. Maria Conchita Shatiqua Guadalupe Ali Baba Mohammed Jones, American

Oak Leaf and the rest of you need a reality check: her performance today was incoherent — an emabarrassing ramble that calls into question her emotional and mental well-being. She looked like a nervous nellie with the sword of damocles handing over her.

She’s done. There is nothing strategic about today’s announcement. She’s done. May her and her family enjoy peace and prosperity as they resume private lives.

Real winner today is Romney. Real loser: left wing media; blogging moonbats; and McCain & his despicable minions.

  18. Mike

Maria- you hit the nail on the head. The frequent contributors to this page live in some type of fantasyland. Sarah Palin is NOT, and never will be, presidential timber. Get over it. Move on.

It’s about time she puts her family first anyway. Her decision to accept the VP nomination, just 5 months after giving birth to a handicapped child, smacked of the worst kind of opportunism and selfish behavior. She is not ready to lead this nation; even if she were to have miraculously secured the GOP nomination in 2012, Obama and his $700M war-chest would have mopped the floor with her.

  19. MI Conservative

Mike- I agree with you on some of your points. Only difference-Why did everyone say she wasn’t ready but never questioned Obama’s eXperience?

Women (NOW) always wanted to be treated at equals but wouldn’t come to her defense and your comment stinks of sexism saying she needs to take care of her family.

  20. qs

    MI Conservative,

Well Obama didn’t resign in his first 6 months in office so far so that’s something.

Had Palin won, she wouldn’t have wanted to stay in Washington very long.

  21. Bonaparte

This lady is a complete flake.

It never ceases to amaze me how many Republicans continue to defend her. She’s a Dan Quayle people – wake up.

  22. Spencer

I posted here last fall that Sarah Palin would be indicted no later than mid-2011. I am about to be proven correct. She’s too egotistical to resign for any reason other than knowing that she’s in serious legal trouble.

If you have the chance to bet on this, go to the nearest casino that will place odds on Palin’s future and shove your money in with both hands that I’m right. (i have.) You’ll be richer than six orthodondists.

  23. Spencer

Having just watched her announcement of this afternoon, Palin truly is crazier than a sackful of weasels. On second thought, though, it may be Todd who’s about to be indicted. No real difference on that. If he’s crooked, she is.

I think it was the Vanity Fair article, provided by the Peggy Noonan/David Frum types that never liked Sarah Palin, telling her (probably with threats) to get out of the Republican Party.

  26. invalid10

Palin 2012! – because America loves a quitter!

or perhaps there is a secret scandal brewing.

Did an embezzlement scandal force Sarah Palin to resign?
Max Blumental reports on The Daily Beast that Sarah Palin may have quit her job today because she was trying to avert a major, yet-to-be-disclosed corruption scandal. The gist of the rumor is that an Alaska building company called Spenard Building Supplies (SBS) was awarded a contract by Palin to build a hockey arena in Wasilla, AK, and in return, SBS helped construct Palin’s home.

    She’s just Cutting and Running.

:) See Ya Sarah.;) wink wink.
And to think, she would have been a heart beat away from being the POTUS.

What would she do if she really had to work hard and make some tough decisions?
    Get her hair done?
She was a rotten choice to begin with.
But the most appalling thing about her, was at the rally when that guy yelled out “Kill Him”. And she didn’t say a word. zip, nada.

Fifteenth Ethics Complaint Dismissed Print Now Printer Friendly

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    No. 09-155

    Fifteenth Ethics Complaint Dismissed

June 23, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska – The 15th ethics complaint filed against the governor or one of her staff has been dismissed. The complaint, filed by Andree McLeod against Anchorage Office Director Kris Perry, alleged Perry used her official position for personal gain by traveling with the governor on three occasions.

The complaint was filed even after Perry obtained an opinion from her ethics supervisor, Linda Perez. In the opinion, dated September 28, 2008, Perez concluded, “By officially staffing the governor, you will be providing a more efficient means for direct communication between the state and the governor. It is in the best interest of the state at this time to have a state employee provide that staff function to ensure that information is provided timely to the governor and any decisions, questions or directions relayed back to the state.”

“It is outrageous to file an ethics complaint against a state employee who sought and obtained ethics guidance in advance,” Mike Nizich, the governor’s chief of staff, said. “This is not about ethics. This is not about holding the governor or state employees accountable. This is pure harassment.”

In dismissing the complaint on June 5, 2009, Acting Attorney General Richard Svobodny concurred with the conclusions of the investigator that “[t]he evidence reviewed does not support the alleged violations of the Ethics Act or suggest the need for further investigation. Under these circumstances, Ms. Perry was not using her official position for her own personal gain or to provide an unwarranted benefit to Governor Palin in violation of AS 39.52.120 (a) because Ms. Perry was traveling on authorized state business.”

The investigator continued: “We would also be remiss in not stating for the record that for the highly unusual situation of the vice presidential campaign, and even the two other trips, the record clearly shows that Ms. Perry gave far more of her personal time to the state of Alaska than she may have used state time, if any, for non-state-related or unavoidable personal activities.”

“While asserting false accusations of ethics law violations, the complainant simultaneously violates the same ethics law by publicizing her malicious accusations,” Perry said. “These improper actions benefit no one, waste state money and resources, and only seek to damage reputations.”

In the past two years, the state of Alaska has spent millions of dollars processing ethics complaints, public records requests, and related lawsuits. ###

  33. Maria Conchita Shatiqua Guadalupe Ali Baba Mohammed Jones, American

Muddork: Those were 15 ethical complaints that were all dismissed. Palin has not been indicted by a grand jury. You’re just as delusional as the idiots on here who think her resignation is a strategic stroke of genius for a future presidential run. She’s done in politics.

Good night and good luck, Sarah!

  34. Jan

I can’t believe the comments here, except for the sane ones of BCL. You guys are the insane ones regarding Palin. What corners of the rat-infested kitchen did you crawl out from?

Palin has been above board, governing with a strong and sensible hand. I certainly can’t say the same for Obama at the helm of this country.

Geez. Unbelievable the inaccurate perspectives and comments here regarding a courageous and rather selfless resignation.

  35. Jan

Furthermore…If Palin wants to be involved with politics on a grander scale she will be welcomed and be successful!

  36. Jan

    From dailypundit blog:

“Caveat: What follows is based on the notion that Palin will continue her political career, and is setting herself up for a run for the White House in 2012.

    1. Start putting her national team together now. Recruit from the best and the brightest of real conservatism.

    2. Ignore her enemies, both in the MSM and the Dem party, and in the liberal wing of the GOP. Define herself on her own terms. No more chat-fests with the likes of Katy Couric.

    3. Set out to remake the GOP in her image. This means identifying strong conservative candidates for both the House and the Senate, then supporting them with fundraisers, public appearances, the expertise of her team, and clout with the party itself in both the primaries and the general election.

    4. In the process, she should define herself by attacking Obama’s policies without ceasing, and offering real conservative solutions. This doesn’t mean “conservative lite,” or “new conservative” or whatever other euphemisms are currently being pushed for a “conservatism” that is actually liberalism in disguise. She should also make clear that she can work with that wing of the party, but doesn’t support, and will not try to advance, the dogmas of the “moderate conservative” hacks.

    5. If she does this right, she can turn the election of 2010 into a referendum on the failed policies and agendas of Obama and the Democrats. If successful – that is, if she helps to greatly reduce or eliminate the Democrat majorities in Congress – she will have set herself up as the savior of the GOP, as the only politician to defeat Obama, and will thus foreclose challenges from other GOP figures.

    6. Spend the next year after that building a huge war chest, honing her campaign and her own talents, and then take it directly to Obama himself from late 2011 on.

And here’s an interesting possible side effect: If Palin is successful in leading a GOP revolution in 2010, look for Hillary Clinton to resign in preparation for her own prexy bid as “the only Democrat who has a chance to beat Palin.”

Secret Service: Claims to “Kill Him” shouted at Palin rally Unfounded

Head of the Secret Service field office in Scranton, stated that the claims that someone yelled “kill him” during a Palin rally last Tuesday are completely unfounded.

The story first broke the Scranton Times-Tribune published it last Tuesday then again Wednesday. The reporter of the first story, David Singleton, claimed that Chris Hackett mentioned Obama’s name and someone screamed back “kill him!”

Agent Bill Slavoski along with an unspecified number of agents, claimed to never have heard the comment. This collaborated the statements by 20+ non-security agents. When Singleton was questioned he couldn’t give a description but stood firm.

  38. (((BCL)))

The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.

The Scranton Times-Tribune first reported the alleged incident on its Web site Tuesday and then again in its print edition Wednesday. The first story, written by reporter David Singleton, appeared with allegations that while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd and mentioned Obama’s name a man in the audience shouted “kill him.”

News organizations including ABC, The Associated Press, The Washington Monthly and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann reported the claim, with most attributing the allegations to the Times-Tribune story.

Agent Bill Slavoski said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment.

“I was baffled,” he said after reading the report in Wednesday’s Times-Tribune.

He said the agency conducted an investigation Wednesday, after seeing the story, and could not find one person to corroborate the allegation other than Singleton.

Slavoski said more than 20 non-security agents were interviewed Wednesday, from news media to ordinary citizens in attendance at the rally for the Republican vice presidential candidate held at the Riverfront Sports Complex. He said Singleton was the only one to say he heard someone yell “kill him.”

    Jan,

You’re out of your mind. Her weakest asset this last time was that she was new and had minimum experience. However, she didn’t even make it through one term as governor. She just quit seemingly because politics were so mean.

If she has been VP, she would have left office in only 6 months because it would have been to mean spirited.

How could she have been a good VP when she leaves as soon as someone says something that angers her?

  41. (((BCL)))

She left because she is not seeking reelection and stated that hanging around as a lame duck would serve no purpose so she is handing the reins over to someone who will continue her agenda.

She also doesn’t want the State to be saddled with the burden of investigating frivolous complaints which amount to no more than politically motivated harassment.

Every move of hers as Governor was scrutinized and complained about as ethics violations. Now she will be free to act politically as she wishes.

Oh, and I would rather here her folksy Alaskan accent rather than 0’s chitcago accent. Those chitcago accents drive me up the wall, especially the 0’s

    GUILTY, GUILTY, GUILTY

Here’s the full post/report on Slick Sarah’s legal problems:

Max Blumental reports on The Daily Beast that Sarah Palin may have quit her job today because she was trying to avert a major, yet-to-be-disclosed corruption scandal. The gist of the rumor is that an Alaska building company called Spenard Building Supplies (SBS) was awarded a contract by Palin to build a hockey arena in Wasilla, AK, and in return, SBS helped construct Palin’s home:

Many political observers in Alaska are fixated on rumors that federal investigators have been seizing paperwork from SBS in recent months, searching for evidence that Palin and her husband Todd steered lucrative contracts to the well-connected company in exchange for gifts like the construction of their home on pristine Lake Lucille in 2002. The home was built just two months before Palin began campaigning for governor, a job which would have provided her enhanced power to grant building contracts in the wide open state.

SBS has close ties to the Palins. The company has not only sponsored Todd Palin’s snowmobile team, according to the Village Voice’s Wayne Barrett, it hired Sarah Palin to do a statewide television commercial in 2004.

Though Todd Palin told Fox News he built his Lake Lucille home with the help of a few “buddies,” according to Barrett’s report, public records revealed that SBS supplied the materials for the house. While serving as mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin blocked an initiative that would have required the public filing of building permits—thus momentarily preventing the revelation of such suspicious information.

Just months before Palin left city hall to campaign for governor, she awarded a contract to SBS to help build the $13 million Wasilla Sports Complex. The most expensive building project in Wasilla history, the complex cost the city an addition $1.3 million in legal fees and threw it into severe long-term debt. For SBS, however, the bloated and bungled project was a cash cow.

Alaska bloggers have reported in recent weeks that “a long simmering embezzelment/IRS scandal is still being looked at by the feds.” In her press conference today, Palin asked the public to “trust me with this decision and know that it is no more politics as usual.” But she also bemoaned “political operatives” who have “descended on Alaska” to investigate “all sorts of frivolous ethics violations.” Palin said this “politics of personal destruction” was one of the key motivating factors behind her decision today

It’s a crime. It is now being investigated. The Slick Willie of the Tundra is going to be indicted and likley convicted.

I’ve said from the beginning (last year when McCain picked her for VP) that Palin is a complete fraud. That has noting to do with sexism, anti-Pailn derangement syndrome or poltical bias of any sort. She’s just flat-out dishonest.

I am a Palin basher because she deserves to be bashed. She’s Slick Willie in a skirt. (Although, to his credit, Clinton stuck things out under far tougher circumstances.) The Republican Party will become a majority party when it understands that being conservative means not quitting-as Caribou Barbie just did.

I’m sure she’ll have lots of girlfriends at whatever prison she is sent to.

If you can’t handle reality, take the nearest piece of paper, fold it in six and shove it where the moon don’t shine.

Here’s a statement from Sarah Palin on the very project Spencer is mentioning. It appears that it came up before and been rebutte4d like so many of the bogus charges that dishonest posters like Spencer like to tar Sarah Palin with.

I’d have a lot less concern about my wallet around Sarah Palin than Spencer.

    conservative1,
Here’s the good part of your link. Read this blowhards.
To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as “fact” that Governor Palin resigned because she is “under federal investigation” for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation. This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law. The Alaska Constitution protects the right of free speech, while simultaneously holding those “responsible for the abuse of that right.” Alaska Constitution Art. I, Sec. 5. http://ltgov.state.ak.us/constitution.php?section=1. These falsehoods abuse the right to free speech; continuing to publish these falsehoods of criminal activity is reckless, done without any regard for the truth, and is actionable.

It gets a little old when worthless, left-wing duchebags like Spencer are constantly attacking the Sarah Palin and the Palin family with baseless charge after baseless charge. Palin has already had 15 ethics violation charges filed against her (all of which have been dismissed). Defending these baseless charges has put Sarah and Todd Palin in debt to the tune of about $500k.

  76. budahmon

Sue…Sarah…Sue….This is going to get very interesting. I bet the Atlantic and Andrew Sullivan are running to their lawyers. Discovery is going to be a bitch.

  77. Leeeeeberal

Probably not ethics charges although there is no reason not to be suspicious and being so isn’t a crime.

More likely she just thought the liberals were too mean and tough for her to handle. She said in her speech that she was victim of political blood sport and that she was giving up.

She said in her speech that she was victim of political blood sport and that she was giving up.

I’d love to see that quote. I’m sure you’ll have no trouble finding it. Maybe it’s on Shannyn Moore’s blog mentioned above.

  79. Leeeeberal

Not in quotes for a reason just paraphrasing what she said.

OK, show me the part you’re “paraphrasing” that said she is giving up. You’re really stretching it since she said nothing of he sort. But go ahead and have fun with it. It’s not a crime, right.

If you’re really interested in investigating possible conflicts of interest and
illegal activities, I suggest you investigate Zero’s shady real estate dealings with a racketeer named Tony Rezko and the special interest rate he received from the bank.

Then there’s the $300k.year job Michelle had with a hospital after Obama sponsored an earmark for the hospital. By the way, the position was eliminated after Michelle resigned.

  82. (((BCL)))

May I add, some of you people might be better served to actually read her words and not the words of hateful lunatics telling you what she said.

  83. Leeeeberal

Sorry I’ll put in quotes for you.

Probably not ethics charges although there is no reason not to be suspicious and being so isn’t a crime.

More likely she just thought the liberals were too mean and tough for her to handle. She said in her speech that she was victim of “political blood sport” and that she was giving up (quiting her job!)

Actually I maybe there are ethics problems coming down the pipe. As Mareen Dowd says “Caribou Barbie Is One Nutty Puppy.”

  84. budahmon

So typical of the left…..Let us cite the one woman we know who is an expert psycho-analyst, Maureen Dowd. Maureen is a well known plagiarist for the New York Times and is an expert in womyn’s relationships concerning families and the role of womyn within them. Maureen who has a BA in English, has never been married and will never have kids so that makes her a damn fine expert in the psychology of conservative women who have held public office and also have families. This is quite a high-water mark for the left’s intelligentsia!

  85. conservative1

The FBI announced it is NOT investigating Sarah Palin.

Hopefully that moron Spencer will be gone for good.

I hope there is a helicopter escape from the Alaskan Capital next week like Bush had from the White House with the crowd chanting Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye as Bush boarded the helicopter in order to give Texas its idiot back?

    Wasilla needs its idiot too!

Don’t worry acroso. In a few years we will see those chants towards Obama.

    BCL:

I suspect Sarah Palin decided to take another approach to running her life. Whether she stays in the political light is her own decision. Staying put as the Govenor of Alaska probably had no future, whatever course she chose to take.

Personally, I’d like to see her spend more time in front of her supporters, give more speeches and refine her political philosophy. There’s something about her that draws people’s interest.
