10 Days In June

By Oak Leaf ~ June 25th, 2009 @ 1:19 pm

I was amazed that Governor Mark Sanford thought he could live a life without the microscopic lenses of both friend and foe alike, and journey to ARGENTINA for six days.

Amazement has now gone to complete astonishment, the plan was TEN DAYS;

On or around the day his wife asked him to move out, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford booked a ten-day trip to Buenos Aires, a person familiar with the governor’s travel plans told POLITICO.

Sanford booked the trip on Delta Air Lines on June 10, using the company’s SkyMiles program, the source said. He bought a ticket for June 18, returning June 28.

And only after he was caught, he offers to re-imburse the taxpayers for a prior trip;

“However, while the purpose of this trip was an entirely professional and appropriate business development trip, I made a mistake while I was there in meeting with the woman who I was unfaithful to my wife with. That has raised some very legitimate concerns and questions, and as such I am going to reimburse the state for the full cost of the Argentina leg of this trip,” Gov. Sanford said.

Redstate is absolutely correct in writing today;

Mark Sanford, you have betrayed your family, your friends, your constituents, your supporters, and God, all for basically nothing. You have proven to be the slimiest member of a barrel that is filled with some pretty slimy characters. If you have a decent bone left in your body, resign immediately and hopefully we can soon permanently move past news cycles featuring either your face or your name. Goodbye and good riddance.

Well his trip was on some sort of economic summit wasn’t it? Just because he was screwing someone while he was there on the side doesn’t mean he wasn’t attending the summit.

I don’t think he should resign necessarily, but I think he should change his position on gay marriage.

    Redstate was more correct here:

    Leeeeave Sanford ALONE!!!!!!!!

    Britney,

That article references the Rascally Bill Clinton (Sanford calls him a rascal) so why don’t we look at what Sanford thought of Clinton.

Mark Sanford voted to impeach Bill Clinton for having an affair and lying about it while in office. He said, “”I think it would be much better for the country and for him personally (to resign).” In explaining why he voted to impeach the president, he said, “I think what he did in this matter was reprehensible… I feel very comfortable with my vote.” He added that Clinton lacked “moral legitimacy” after his affair.

Well you could bring up the lying under oath thing so what did he have to say about the affair of fellow Republican Bob Livingston:

“I’m sure there will be a lot of legalistic explanations pointing out the president lied under oath, [Livingston's] situation was not under oath. But the bottom line is, he still lied. He lied under a different oath and that is the oath to his wife. So it has got to be taken very seriously.”

And here is him talking about Larry Craig and Livingston both:

“The issue of lying is probably the biggest harm, if you will, to the system of Democratic government, representative government, because it undermines trust. And if you undermine trust in our system, you undermine everything.”

So what “double standard” is that Redstate article talking about? We can just judge Sanford based on his own statements applied to himself.

    “I was amazed ”

    Really?

I guess politicians aren’t the perfect citizens we think they are, right? Matter of fact, they seem pretty much like the average citizen.

Spare us all the feigned outraged. When Democrat slimeballs resign after a scandal, I’ll be the first to ask Republicans to do the same. Until then, keep telling us how great the recovery is.

[I know what to expect from the Democrats. With a Democrat it is typically not a scandal because you called it right, I already view them as a slimeball. In regards to the American economy, the same thing is happening that always happens and it is called recovery. Hey, let me ask you how is that Obama Bear Market doing since the GOP ran with it in March? I feel very sad for the many that actually listened to that drivle and bailed from equities. OL]

No wonder South Carolina is in so much financial trouble. Well, at least Rod Blagojevich will have another disgraced govenor to keep him company.

Sanford is completely crazy, the nerve to actually leave his office and lie and travel to argentina is wacky. I don’t think he is going to be in office much longer, he should resign, I think he’s broken the public trust.

How sad. A child molesting dirtbag is dead.

When people have jobs, they can starting spending money. Obama is killing jobs.

“The nation’s unemployment rate hit a quarter-century peak of 9.4 percent last month when employers eliminated 345,000 jobs. Joseph LaVorgna, chief U.S. economist at Deutsche Bank, forecasts that employers will have cut a net total of 325,000 jobs this month and the unemployment rate will rise to 9.6 percent.”

His wife learned of his affair with the Argentine 5 months ago and she states they were trying to repair their marriage. But he evidently was not finished with the Latin lady and his wife found out about that and asked him to leave the family home. His reaction was to fly down to Buenos Aires to be with his mistress, ditching his children on Father’s day and leaving his state without a governor, lying to cover up his mess, so we have full proof of where his loyalties lie. He needs to be impeached for dereliction of duty and abandoning his post. His wife needs to divorce him and take every penny he has to protect her children from his influence. What is it about politics that attracts such scum?

    The Mark and Maria Show

    As the story opens:

    Mark loves Maria.

How many women would love to get a letter like that from a man . . . even just once?

    A lot, I believe.

Mark might love his wife as much- or more- than Maria (let’s see the passionate emails that begin Dearest Jenny) but you can’t say he doesn’t love Maria.

Can Jenny stay married to Mark knowing that he loves another woman?

[You had me rolling on the floor!!! Now I keep "hearing in my mind" that song that goes "Don't cry for me Argentina" except it is in Mark Sanfords voice with him singing it. OL]

Please don’t take your eyes off of real news.
Iran – keep them in you prayers, this is GWB’s Reagan moment, every person has a God given right to liberty. Keep it in the news.
Cap and Trade: passing Friday, 535 people in DC don’t care what you think. Call anyway.
    N. Korea nuclear sites will have to be taken out about 3 minutes after the patriot defense system from Japan, take out the Taepodong-2.
Total takeover of the health system by August 1, by rationing health care he will solve both Medicare and Social Security’s problem.

Ken_phd I laughed out loud reading your blame game on Obama. People like you were happy to see Obama win the White House so finally we could blame someone other than Bush for our country’s mess. As if he is to blame for the huge debacle he inherited. Let’s see if we’re better off in 4 years than we were…..

Note Sanford is only “sorry” after he is caught by the media. Where were all these tears during this steamy affair?

Another one bites the dust, pass me a hanky!!

Sanford’s double standard is a reason not to re-elect him.
But let’s talk about reasons for impeachment. He did plan on leaving his job for 10 days of an announced vacation. He did so without officially leaving the Lt Gov in charge. I’m sure he had official duties sometime in those 10 days.
Because he had a bad time at work and home, he simply dropped his responsibilities and fled the country. Anyone else would be fired for such an act. Let’s not let him off the hook just because he happens to have powerful friends.

Joke Leaf once again proves he only sees the flaws of the GOP… Quite a brilliant light shone on his own bigotry…

  20. Critical Thinker

As I recall, Gov. Sanford admitted to fabricating fiction but he never admitted to lying. What the %^^&#@@%%% does this guy believe we are…dumber than rocks? (Right out of 43′s playbook written by Rove I might add.)

Oak. Do you support your president’s Cap and Trade policies?

Do you support the “government option”for healthcare that your president, the one you cried about,is pushing?

You can say whatever you weant Oak,byt Democrats are MUCH more distructive than Repubs. Cap and Trade,Govt.Healthcare, and coming this fall,AMnESTY! Enjoy Oak!

    Oh,I forgot. Republicans are worse.

Yep. The GOP is obsessed with it. Family values. Promise Keeper. It is a way to obtain power and the GOP has used it to great success. Oh wait, Ensign and Sanford are GOP…never mind…

What’s this cap and trade thingy ? Never mind it’s far too complicated…

Translation: Perfect opportunity for the GOP to distort it to great success.

After the exorcism the gay demon is on the loose looking for a new host to infect so people are on the run knowing that it could try to inhabit anyone. But luckily the gay demon has been identified.

If the govnuh thought he could have gotten away with his tryst, how can the people of South Carolina trust him? His wife is really something–maybe she was too smart for her husband, (she seems to be quite bright), so he sought out someone in another country, intending to contribute to the principles of NAFTA…?
