“Problem” is an understatement with Made in China
In 2001 there was an uproar when US Army berets were going to be imported from China;
“The Army Chief of Staff has determined that US troops shall not wear berets made in China or berets made with Chinese content,” Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz said in an official statement on Tuesday.
In 2009 the uproar should continue;
DETROIT (AP) – As thousands of General Motors workers await word on more U.S. plant closures, reports that the company plans to import Chinese-made vehicles to the U.S. have created a political problem for the automaker and the White House.
The reports, which GM will neither confirm nor deny, could mean trouble because GM is supported by $15.4 billion in U.S. government loans, largely due to the Obama administration’s desire to preserve the company’s 90,000 U.S. jobs.
The United Auto Workers charged last week that the Detroit automaker intends to almost double over the next five years the number of vehicles it imports to the U.S. from Mexico, South Korea, China and Japan.
“GM should not be taking taxpayers’ money simply to finance the outsourcing of jobs to other countries,” Alan Reuther, the union’s Washington lobbyist, wrote in a letter to U.S. lawmakers.
The only country on the list above that I have no problem with is Mexico. I have long ago supported buying products Hecho en Mexico because I would rather buy products from Mexicans building them in Mexico rather than buying products made by illegals in the United States. My office is filled with Compaq PCs that are all Made in Mexico instead of China, Vietnam or Malaysia.
With respect to using US Taxpayer funding to support any industry, it can only be justified if that money is preserving US Jobs because the cost of losing those jobs would be higher in the end, because of lost manufacturing capability with the national security implications or simply the raw cost in unemployment costs, uninsured health care, pension default….
There are two choices to be made. You can stand with management which wants to import foreign products or you can stand with labor.
I believe in Fair Trade not free trade, I am not a so called globalist.
I will never side with Made in China.
Republicans would do well be re-reading Pat Buchanan on the subject.

Ya, Pat’s good in some respects, but I don’t care for his views on trade.
I have a fascination with this lady so more news out of Yangon today.
YANGON, Myanmar – Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was charged Thursday with violating the terms of her house arrest after an American man swam across a lake to sneak into her home, her lawyer said.

I want to know what the American was trying to do although I assume he was trying to get an interview.
“Everyone is very angry with this wretched American. He is the cause of all these problems,” Suu Kyi’s lawyer Kyi Win told reporters. “He’s a fool.”

Why are you professing such concern for American jobs when you support the radical marxist who is in the process of destroying the private sector?

Consistency isn’t your strong suit.
First it is:
Have no fear, many of the so called conservatives on this site would like to cut the mitten off from the Union and let it drift away. They do not give a damn about their fellow neighbors. Its hilarious when I chide them to buy Made in the USA
Then,
have long ago supported buying products Hecho en Mexico because I would rather buy products from Mexicans building them in Mexico rather than buying products made by illegals in the United States.
Or, you could support having PC made by American workers in America.
Kind of like you pretend to do here.
[I have really tried to get PCs Made in USA and can not find them. The Dell products I looked at came from malaysia. HP branded from China. But Compaq had models from Mexico. If you know a brand Made in USA let me know. OL
