Poll junkies can see the internals of the Louisiana Senate poll that had Terrell and Landrieu in a dead heat here. As I noted, the poll overstated the black share of the total vote.
One interesting thing to note is that, since Landrieu narrowly won her seat in 1996, the percentage of voters identifying themselves as Republicans has risen from about 20% to 30% while the Democrat identification has dropped from about 50% to 40%. In fact, the Louisiana GOP has a prominent link on its web site for voters to switch parties.
Of course, Louisiana Democrats aren’t like Democrats in the rest of the country and will give a significant chunk of their votes to Republicans running for federal office.
