A Time magazine article talks about the budget crunch most states are facing. The rambling article has this interesting nugget:

“2003 will be a year of tough policy decisions,” says Bill Pound, the group’s executive director. The only states saying their budgets are on sounder footing are Florida, Hawaii, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.

What do these states have in common? Of the 10 states listed, 4 have no income tax. Only 9 out of the 50 states don’t have a state income tax. While other state budgets are crumbling, states without an income tax seem to be in disproportionately good shape. Does the author point this out? In typical liberal fashion, of course not.

Here’s the honor roll of states without an income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming
