Click here to see one of the few positive ads running in the Louisiana Senate runoff. It shows Suzie Terrell’s daughters talking about how she’s a good working mom. It’s not a bad ad, but it’s the sort of ad you’d run if you were a Washington insider and wanted to counter that image.

Rule 1 of positive ads: Positive ads should counter negative perceptions. As a candidate with little experience and name ID, Terrell should be running ads that beef up her record and portray her as experienced and tough (always a weakness for a female candidate.)

This ad proves, yet again, that Terrell is not the best campaigner I’ve seen; but I still give her the edge in this race. The “demolition derby” of negative ads hurts Landrieu far more than it hurts Terrell. You can listen online to a Louisiana radio station that’s airing the ads.
