Those Protests In Iraq

By PoliPundit ~ April 23rd, 2003 @ 11:30 am

TV screens are full of anti-American protests in Iraq, as I predicted they would be. But, as I’ve noted, those protests are about as relevant as “anti-war” protests here in the US.

Iraqis are relatively secular, sophisticated people. They will make the right decisions when given the chance to vote. The protesters do not represent majority opinion, which will only become apparent when elections are held. Will radical Islamists have some influence over government? Yes. Will they control the government? Probably not. Radical Shiite clerics will be opposed by the Sunnis and the Kurds, not to mention the significant numbers of secularist Shia. Radical Sunni clerics will be opposed by the Shia and the Kurds.
