If Gore Had Won

A “We Wuz Robbed!” liberal wonders what would have happened if Al Gore were president:

Let us accept for the moment that Sept. 11, 2001, would have happened on Gore’s watch too, either on that date or some other.

Would Gore’s response to such attacks have been to attack Afghanistan? And then Iraq?

And to round up more than a thousand Americans deemed suspicious of giving aid and comfort to terrorists and tossing them into prisons without being charged with anything or having access to legal counsel?

To sponsor a legal mechanism called the Patriot Act that blatantly erodes our basic constitutional civil liberties more than any other American legislation since the Espionage and Sedition Acts of World War I?

Maybe those actions, and so many others in these days of John Ashcroft, would have been the natural outgrowth of the 9-11 attacks no matter who was in the White House.

But, seriously: Do you really think that?

And this guy thinks that these are arguments in favor of a Gore presidency!

Let’s review, shall we?

There hasn’t been a single major terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01.

Think about that for a moment. Islamo-terrorists have struck repeatedly in Russia, Indonesia, India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Pakistan. But, despite all the bluster from the purported “voice” of Osama Bin Laden, he has been utterly unable to kill Americans in America. All he can do is cower in a cave, waiting to be blown to bits or dragged out of his bed in chains, like most of his flunkies already have been.

Not a single major attack on US soil since 9/11/01. Not one.

There are three reasons for this surprisingly pleasant turn of events: George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld and John Ashcroft.
