How Dwarfish Can They Get?
I’m watching the nine dwarfs at the AFL-CIO’s candidates forum in Chicago on C-SPAN. If you’re a Democrat, this has got to be the most depressing thing you’ve seen since Al Gore repeatedly sighed on camera in the first presidential debate with George W. Bush in 2000. Fortunately for Democrats, few people – other than the candidates’ wives, and some unfortunate interns for the “mainstream” media outlets – are watching this debate. But those watching have to come away with a sense that the Democratic presidential candidates are tiny Lilliputians trying to bring down the Gulliver Bush with their shrill barbs.
The only good thing Democrats can say about this “candidates forum” is that the Democratic candidates seem to be going to great lengths to avoid potshots at each other. That said, if I were the president, I would buy an hour of TV time to air the entire “candidates forum” for a national audience. It would be the ultimate attack ad.
