Gray Davis complaining about the liberal media? You bet!

The New York Times Magazine had a lively cover story in its Sept. 28 issue about the recall election, and it started with an equally lively anecdote about how Gov. Gray Davis’ next-door neighbor disliked Davis’ un-neighborly behavior so much she gave $2,000 to the recall campaign.

Just one small problem, according to the Davis camp. The woman doesn’t live next door to the governor. In fact, said Steve Maviglio, the governor’s spokesman, she doesn’t even live on the same street. He said Davis’ Carmichael residence is on Lake Wilhaggin Drive, while the woman quoted in the story lives on Wilhaggin Drive.

“By no possible stretch of the imagination are they next-door neighbors,” Maviglio said. “She’s on the other side of the (small artificial) lake. She can’t even see the governor’s driveway.
