Supreme Court
Jennifer C. Braceras reviews some surprising possible Supreme Court nominations.
One that I find particularly intriguing is Spencer Abraham. At 52, he’s the right age. And he’s an Arab-American former senator from the swing state of Michigan. That would make Democrats slightly more hesitant to filibuster his nomination.
In my opinion, President Bush should nominate someone like Abraham to replace Chief Justice William Rehnquist. When Justice Sandra Day O’Connor retires, he could nominate 55-year-old California State Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown to replace her. He should save his first Hispanic nominee to replace ultra-liberal Justice John Paul Stevens, who is likely to retire sometime during the next 4 years (he’ll be 88 years old when Bush’s second term ends.)
