Congress Contact – Update
Yesterday, I sent out the last fax and emails in attempts to contact every Member of the U.S. House of Scoundrels Representatives and the U.S. Hall of Egos Senate. I have put up articles about the Auto-Replies of note received from each office. Basically, they come in three flavors – simple acknowledgment that the message was received, a promise to reply in some fashion, or else a somewhat impolite notice that only certain messages will receive replies, and even then only under certain conditions. Some of our readers have risen to the Congress’ defense, noting the sheer volume of mail they receive, while others have recounted rude and arrogant behavior from their own attempts to contact Congress in the past. I am waiting for each office to have a reasonable opportunity to respond, though I have found the automatic responses illuminating, which is why I posted them.
Many readers have suggested we each contact the Senator/Congressman for our own State/District wit hour questions, which I think is a great idea, and the logical next step. Accordingly, what I want to do is go back and contact the existing volunteers by email, and we’ll chart the volunteers on a site willing to keep track (Logipundit suggested he may be willing to do this, or else I may just post the roster on Stolen Thunder - I’ll note whatever we decide). Each volunteer (call us ‘designated correspondents’?) would forward the 20-question list to their own Congressman/Senators, and include an email address as well as our own mailing addresses. The correspondents would then forward the replies if/when they come in.
I also will be sorting out our questions by type, and identifying the Senators and Congressmen who are on the relevant Committees for those issues. I further intend to check the Congressmen’s websites for any relevant details on their positions, and also intend to note those which are fluff-only sites (evil marshmallows).
As I said, this is a work in progress.
