Tourney Two
The Super Prez match-up was, well, the rout everyone expected, with George Washington taking the trophy easily over Ronald Reagan by a vote tally of 72 to 25. For those interested, the Presidents dropped in the “Conference” Finals were Abe Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.
There was a lot of great debate and history discussed, and a number of people expressed an interest in a “March Madness” tourney. I have thought about it, and true to the parallel to College Basketball, we’ll have two tournaments.
With 42 Presidents participating, our Presidential Tourney will be NIT-style, with 22 first-round byes and 20 competing in the first round. To shake things up a bit, we will also be establishing point values for each President by voting first on the relevant values each President should have, and assessing a value for each quality for each President.
The other, NCAA-style tourney, will be a match-up of current Congressmen and Senators. Just like the NCAAs, this means there will be some participants you have never heard of, along with some big names. And we’ll have to sort out how we’ll score the match-ups. With over five hundred Representatives and Senators chasing just 64 slots, this is a wide-open race right now, and the floor for nominations is open. Remember, what we’re looking for here is political effectiveness, not whether the guy matches your politics, and if you know a relevant bit of information, now’s a good place to share.
And as always, if you believe these match-ups are a waste of time, just move along to one of our other fine threads. But watch out for George – he worked pretty hard for that trophy, and may have something to say to anyone dissing his success.
