Iraqi Reality Television

A popular television show in Iraq uses the same technique to destroy the nationalistic, patriotic image of the “insurgents” that the footage of Saddam getting his teeth checked did to destroy the image of the all powerful leader.

Iraq’s wildly popular new television show features a nightly parade of men, most with bruised faces, confessing to all kinds of terrorist and criminal acts.

“Terrorism in the Hands of Justice” is the Iraqi government’s slick new propaganda tool. Its televised confessions, the police say, aim to discredit the armed resistance and advertise the government’s success at cracking down on gangs.

There are some questions about how the confessions are obtained — the bruises are a clue. The idea is very innovative, though, and evidently, very effective. Link via Right Wing News.
