2005 New York Mayor Race
More good news has arrived for Mayor Michael Bloomberg as he prepares to face the voters for a second time this November. A new Quinnpiac Poll reports that Mayor Mike now leads his likely Democratic challenger, Fernando Ferrer, 47%-38%. Previous polls showed Bloomberg trailing Ferrer.
Moreover, Bloomberg leads other potential Democratic nominees by wide margins. He tops Virginia Fields, 43%-38%, Gifford Miller, 42%-35%, and Anthony Weiner, 44%-32%.
The Mayor has a 47% job approval rating and is perceived as a very strong leader.
Obviously, Bloomberg is no Giuliani. However, it says something about the state of the Democratic Party that the Republican Party is looking at 16 years of uninterrupted control in Gotham.
