2006 Pennsylvania Senate and Governor Race
First, some general statistics about the attitudes of the citizens of my Commonwealth. 50% of Pennsylvanians are satisfied with the direction of the state, while 42% are disatisfied. Satisfaction seems strongest in the Philadelphia suburbs and among the young.
Ed Rendell has a 56% favorable, 34% unfavorable rating.
“Rendell continues to be quite popular in the vote-rich Southeastern region (74% favorable). The Governor also gets positive ratings in Northeastern PA (58%) and “Rest of State” (57%). He is not as popular, however, in the traditionally Democratic Southwestern PA (45% favorable) and the GOP-leaning South Central region (44%).”
Rick Santorum has a 49% favorable, 28% unfavorable rating.
“Regional differences in Santorum favorability are smaller. He gets above average ratings in Northeastern PA (58% favorable/20% unfavorable), South Central PA (51%/21%) and “Rest of State” (52%/24%). His “negatives” are somewhat higher in the Southeastern region (42%/30%) and Southwestern PA (49%/37%).”
Robert P. Casey, Jr. has a 52% favorable, 13% unfavorable rating.
Bill Scranton, Jr. has a 29% favorable, 8% unfavorable rating.
Lynn Swann has a 28% favorable, 7% unfavorable rating.
The number that is of some concern to me is Santorum’s weak rating in Southwestern Pennsylvania. He needs to defeat Casey here by a comfortable margin to offset the Rendell generated Casey margin in Philadelphia.
