As Lorie’s link points out, some Republicans right now want to cut their noses to spite their faces. That means not contributing to the NRSC to show their displeasure with a failure to achieve cloture on Bolton or employ the nuclear option on Owens. These short-sighted conservatives fail to recognize that a failure on the nuclear option could have resulted in lasting damage to the Republican Party and a propaganda victory of epic proportion for Democrats. They fail to recognize that the next time Democrats filibuster a judicial nominee, especially a Supreme Court nominee, Republicans can argue that Democrats broke their promise of not filibustering unless it were “extraordinary circumstances.”
