2008 Republican Presidential Nomination

People close to John McCain believe that there is a 70% chance the Arizona Senator will run for President in 2008.

One has to wonder how delusional McCain could be to expect that he could win a Republican Presidential nomination. Yes, polls indicate that he would the frontrunner. However, I would also guarantee that when the field narrows down to two, McCain’s 30% will stay at 30%. His only chance would be the field narrowing to him and Giuliani. Even then, I think many conservatives would opt for the New Yorker.

Does McCain really want to go down in history as a two-time failure to win the GOP Presidential nomination? I would advise the Senator to stay where he is. The seat is his as long as he wants it. Until the Republicans win 60 Senate seats, he is practically co-majority leader.
