2006 Florida Senate Race

House Speaker Allan Bense has decided not to run for the Republican Senate nomination in Florida. Many prominent figures in Florida GOP politics, including Governor Jeb Bush, urged Bense to run as an alternative to the perceived unelectable Katharine Harris. My own suspicion is that Bense realized that he does not have the name recognition or the stature to compete with Harris in the GOP primary. It is going to take someone just as prominent and popular within conservative circles as Harris to have a chance of beating her.
