“The New Blood Libel” Update – Fake, But Accurate (French Media Version)
Nidra Poller has written an excellent report on the al-Dura video scandal. Additional commentary here . (Links via Michelle Malkin)
Here is what I wrote on the subject back in February:
More than an outrage, this is part of a disturbing trend. Like Dan Rather, this reporter believed it was okay to run with a bogus story as long as the image conveyed to the viewer fit what the reporter believed to be the truth – fake, but accurate. The story of Israeli soldiers shooting a young Palestinian boy in front of his father had a huge impact on world events by shaping public opinion, which then translated into world leaders making decisions of life and death with those public sentiments in mind. The Eason Jordan story of American soldiers targeting journalists has already begun to travel the globe, and will likely shape public opinion in some parts of the world as well.
The days of media bias for or against Republicans or Democrats looks trivial in comparison to the life and death consequences of the current news coverage. This makes the role of the new media in keeping a check on the journalists who continue to deny the consequences of their reporting all the more important.
UPDATE: Thanks so much to Thomas Lifson at The American Thinker for linking to this post. He posted the link under the title “The New Blood Libel,” which is incredibly appropriate. From now on when I write on this topic I will have to use his phrase.
More from Betsy Newmark , and Atlas Shrugs wrote about how the NYT buried this story back in February.
