NC Update – Burr/Bowles Ad Wars

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

Richard Burr, the Republican candidate for Senate from North Carolina, has been attacked mercilessly for the past few weeks by opponent Erskine Bowles over the issue of breast cancer. One ad features a breast cancer survivor who is so angry she is practically spitting when metioning Burr’s name. Today I [...]

New York Times/CBS Poll

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

As most of you know, we here at Polipundit.com are not enthusiastic supporters of either the New York Times or CBS News, but there are some very interesting findings in their latest poll showing President Bush up 48%-45%. You can find the polls at the New York Times website. I cannot link to [...]

Gallup

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

The last Gallup poll of this campaign shows Bush leading 49-47.
I agree with AKM’s take below on the laughability of the state-by-state numbers. With these numbers, Bush wins the electoral college. However, he’s much more likely to win Florida and/or Ohio and lose Pennsylvania.
Stop worrying about the polls. Get out and vote. It’s all you [...]

TALK ABOUT ABSURD!

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

The new Gallup state polling data is out, and it’s frankly laughable. Why the most respected pollster in the world is going out on a limb like this is beyond me.
Florida=Kerry leads by three
Pennsylvania=Bush leads by four
Ohio=Kerry leads by four
Minnesota=Kerry leads by eight
Wisconsin=Bush leads by eight
Iowa=Bush leads by two
In the national poll, Bush wins [...]

CBS Poll

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

CBS: Bush by 49-46
Like I said, for every poll that shows one move, others show the opposite. Today, WaPo and Fox show the race tightening. Rasmussen, Zogby, TIPP, Pew and CBS show movement towards Bush.
Ignore the polls. Get out and vote. That’s all you can do now.

Kerry Discharge

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

The Kerry other-than-honorable discharge story seems to have some compelling evidence in favor of it. All the talk suggests this story will break tonight.
We’ve seen this smoke before. I hope there’s some fire behind it this time. It would be wonderful if Kerry had to finally pay for his pro-Communist activities.

Midwest

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

NRO’s Battlegrounders have good posts on Minnesota and Michigan.

Pew Poll

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

A new poll is out from Pew Research, not exactly the most Republican-friendly of polling firms. Yet the news in this poll is reasonably good. President Bush leads among likely voters 48%-45%. With undecided voters factored in, President Bush leads 51%-48%.
Please remember that no Presidential candidate has won with more than 50% [...]

The Senate

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

Yours truly has been bringing Polipundit.com readers regular updates on the Senate races, and I will make a final prediction tomorrow night because I will be working on Tuesday. (I am waiting to see what the Mason-Dixon poll says in Florida.)
However you may take this opportunity to record your predictions on the Senate races.

New Mexico

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

As I mentioned previously, the President has an excellent chance to pick up the following blue states from 2000: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Mexico, and Hawaii.
HINT HINT HINT: If you are a Republican in New York, go to Pennsylvania on election day. If you are a Republican in Indiana or Kentucky, [...]

My Take

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

Ignore the polls showing a tightening race for several reasons:
1. The polls released today are weekend polls, and given the fact that the candidates are tied, President Bush is probably ahead.
2. The state polling data continues to be excellent for the President, giving him leads in Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. [...]

October Surprise

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

Did you know that the phrase October Surprise dates back to 1968?

The Scenarios

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

Bob Novak previews election night, with a focus on Florida and Ohio:
Americans glued to their television sets Tuesday night should get a pretty good idea of the outcome of the presidential election by 8 p.m. CST with the returns from the all-important battleground states of Florida (27 electoral votes) and Ohio (20).
These are the possible [...]

Zogby

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

John Zogby is the most overrated pollster in the country. He used to be an ulta-liberal radical activist, and his opinions continue to color his polls. In 2002, he got most of the close races wrong, with a consistent bias towards Democrats that probably cost Republicans a Senate seat. After that, many Republican politicians started [...]

Bin Laden

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

Apparently, Al Jazeera edited the 18-minute Bin Laden tape down to 6 minutes, leaving out parts that could help President Bush:
Officials said that in the 18-minute long tape — of which only six minutes were aired on the al-Jazeera Arab television network in the Middle East on Friday — bin Laden bemoans the recent democratic [...]
